My Pap and mammo is Oct 21 at 8:45. I am hoping by putting it here and my popup calendar I will remember. My yearly check up was due in Feb. I am not looking forward to the mammo. Larry said he heard there is a new test but I haven't so I'm not sure.

I did hear there is a new test for the colonoscopy. It's like 3 d, non invasive. I have never had one done and I have heard we are to start when we turn 50 but I just could not stand the thought of having one. I'll have to find out more about it.

I had my "mashogram" yesterday morning.
Our hospital has a new machine which wasn't nearly as uncomfortable as the older one, but my right breast still has fibrous tissue which made it an owie situation.

Kath, I had a colonoscopy a few years ago, I was knocked out for the procedure so I didn't feel a thing, but the stuff they make you drink the night before is absolutely horrible.

Yeah, Larry has had a few colonoscopies, and he got sick to his stomach drinking it, and he's pretty stoic about things like that, can handle just about anything. I heard there are 2 or 3 different kinds of substances to drink, and some are not as bad as others. But they all are bad.

I'm in perimenopause and am wondering if anyone else get night sweats? I wake up with them every night and feel like I'm in a sauna!

As for those colonoscopies, the worst part is the night before.

Next month is my annual female fun stuff and physical. Hope everything's okay like usual.

I wake up with my hair plastered to the back of my head from sweat.
In the morning I look like a half crazed person because my hair is so messed up from me pushing it off my neck and face all night long.

This cycle is going to be a doozie.
I am so moody I can't even stand myself!
I nearly asked Rick for a divorce today just because.
No reason, just because.
How ignorant is that??
I am mouthy, ready to fight anyone and anything and just generally acting like a bad word I can't say here!
Man I do not like this at all.

Oh yeah! I have to have the fan on all the time at night

The other day Linz was laying down with me and she had the space heater on. I told her to get up and shut it off. She grumbled something about me and menopause.

You may want to look at what you eat. Some foods can make night sweats worse (some can cause night sweats all on their own!).

Also, think about perhaps getting some flat sheets and/or towels and lay on them when you go to bed. Many women find that they wake up because of wet sheets, not because of the night sweat. It's easy to put a flat sheet/towel (not tucked in) off the bed without waking up too much. A towel may feel strange to sleep on, but they are generally more absorbant.

I was doing some reading on Pap tests, and the sites I went to were saying how if a woman has had consecutive good reports, she really doesn't need a Pap yearly but possibly every third year.

Is this something new or what?
I have always been told to have yearly Pap and never had a bad one.
Kinda curious about this.

I work at a nursing school & I have heard it in the classroom stated that it could be every other year. Unfortunately, most insurance companies & docs will not support that & some states you can't get the mammo w/o it. Although, I probably could order a mammo through my internist, but he just doesn't seem to be all into the female stuff. He just wants to take care of my weight to prevent diabetes & make sure my head is stable! Doubt my head would be so stable if I didn't know the rest of me was healthy!! kd

I think it is fairly new, as I first heard about this a couple of years ago. I talked to my doctor about it once, but I have to have one every year because I have had some iffy test results.

We had a lab inservice on that a while ago. I don't remember the exact statistics, but I think it's close to 98% of all cervical cancers are caused by HPV. Someone who is married, with both partners being faithful, or who is abstinent, has a very low risk for cervical cancer. A person in either of those categories should be safe to cut back on the frequency of their pap smears once they've established a pattern of negative results. There has been some talk in the medical community in the last few years of doing away with the pap and just doing HPV screens, or routinely including HPV screens with the pap test. I'm a med tech, but I don't work in cytology, so I'm not sure if that's still being discussed or not. Anyway, it's something worth discussing with your doctor.

I don't know, but there must be a lot of people who aren't aware they have it, at least in the early stages.

My understanding is that HPV for most women may not show cancer until their 50s. W/ the things I've been learning lately about the RIGHT approach to young ladies doing the Gardacil series, I'm now already in fear of risky behaviors I had in my late teens & early 20s. This could show up in my 50s even though right now my paps come back normal. So for me, even though I haven't been sexually active for years, it's probably best to keep being checked. I would say now that HPV could be moving up to the top of the list even above HIV to practice prevention. HIV can be found much sooner & HPV much later down the road. I find that to be something to REALLY be concerned about. kd

Not necessarily. The only visable sign is warts ~ and you may never get those.

Smear tests aren't routinely done in the UK every year. It's generally every 3-4 years (can't remember which now), letters are sent out automatically and the doctor will have a reminder on their screen too when any woman sees a doctor.

Last TOM was 8-30.
Late again.

Is it typical to have the "feeling" (crampy, moody etc) you are going to start but don't start?

I don't know if it's typical in general, but it's typical for me. As an added bonus, I'll get bloated too.

Still haven't had one since July. But yes, I still get to experience those oh-so-lovely feelings, including the pimple that I get in almost the exact same spot every month.

Maybe I am finally grown up?
