I think I should be in this thread and not in the trying to conceive. We are not preventing though, but we are definitely not trying. If it happens, it happens Hunter is 19 months old and our plan is that if we are not pregnant by his second birthday then we will start trying officially. I will do ovulation kits and start charting to help things along, until then we are having fun and letting go.

We have never used condoms so I don't know the first thing about them. I do plan on using them after the next baby though instead of hormonal birth control. It does not mix well with my body chemistry and I feel like it is not fair to put my family through that. We definitely won't be ready to do anything permanent so I think condoms will be our choice of birth control.

Chelle- I was under the impression that you were trying and disappointed to not be preggo. That just shows me how far off my assumptions can be.

We are using Trojan-ENZ lubricated right now, but dh likes LifeStyles Ultra Sensitive better. They were out last time I bought and we were totally out, so I figured dh would rather have something rather than nothing.

That was always Greg's favorite, hands down.

You were not entirely off. I was really disappointed at first to find out we were not expecting this month, but the more I thought about the less disappointed I was. Not that I would not have been thrilled if we would have been, but I wouldn't mind it happening until he was 2 years old. I let my feelings get the best of me which I now know was because AF was on her way . We are not purposely trying, but we are not preventing either, that is where we are currently at. Like I said before we will officially start trying if we are not pregnant by January.

Ok, so quick question.......for most women, there are 14 days between the day the ovulate and the day they get a period, right? Also, how many days is a woman normally fertile?

I just finished reading about this in TCOYF. Yes, for the majority of women there are a set number of days between ovulation and menstruation, however it will vary per woman, usually around 14 days though. You'd have to temp a few cycles to be sure of your own count. And most women are fertile 9-10 days per cycle, counting 5 days prior to ovulation (as sperm can live up to that long), give 1-2 days for ovulation (if there are multiple eggs released) and three days after.

We use Durex Avanti (non-latex) condoms when needed as well as VCF (film). I have a latex sensitivity, so we use non-latex.

I did not realize you can possibly be fertile for such a long period of time during a cycle. That is a lot of condoms or other means of being careful Oh well we have a long time before we need them I guess.

You aren't *technically* fertile for so long, the 5 day period before ovulation is because of the life-span of sperm. Those little buggers can live 3-5 days before they die. The 3 days after ovulation is to basically "double check" that you did in fact ovulate, because all temping shows is that you DID, it doesn't show when you will.

I realize we can probably cut it a lot closer, but for us, we can't afford to take an chances. I'll go by the book, even if it means extra protection for 10 days! We don't want a Japanese baby!

So....I thought about stocking up on pregnancy tests. I just know I'm gonna be neurotic about this whole thing! But, I'll hold off until next weekend. I wouldn't be "late" until then anyhow.

Sheesh! I hope this whole process gets better with time.

Hm. I would disagree I still worry every month and we would be fine(and excited after a couple days) if I got pregnant.

I didn't think you did... I just wanted to point out that we didn't have a very scientific experiment with dh and I successfully using condoms because we don't know that we could have children if we tried. Infertility is rampant and we could be a part of the numbers who are infertile and just not be aware because of our decision.

Have you ever thought of getting tested for infetility? If you are, you wouldn't even have to deal with condoms anymore.

We like the Trojan Magnum condoms, they are tight at the base, and "roomy" at the end. Hubby likes them better than "thin" or "sensitive" condoms.
I don't really have a preference really, I don't mind any of them. Those are the ones we've been using for a couple years now. I don't even know how we came across them in the first place.

Nice thought Stina... but I just wanted to share that friends of ours had fertility treatments to have their son, and were told after that they had less than .5% chance of ever getting pregnant again. They now have two babies less than a year apart!! (they are blessed, they are so happy, but so unexpected!!)
God had a different plan!

Ack...that's what I'm afraid of!

I told my husband today (he is still off playing with hurricanes) that we did not make a honeymoon baby. He actually seemed kind of bummed! I think he is going to start pushing the idea of having a baby sooner then later (not pushing in a bad way).

We fully agree on wanting to adopt, but I still REALLY don't want to be pregnant nor give birth. And, just as much as I don't want to do it, he does. Why is it I have the feeling in my gut that God is on Ray's side of this whole thing?

Personally, I believe that if it is God's plan for you to have a child naturally that God will change your heart too I know no matter what anyone tells you will not change how you feel only God can do that. I will say personally it was the greatest experience of my life even the labor/delivery. I can't explain it, but it made me treasure being a woman even more than I did before. I would just bring it before God in prayer, though I am sure you have already been doing that.

Well, my prayers have pretty much been...."Please God, do not let me get pregnant!"

I learned a long time ago not to ask a question that I don't want to know the answer to. So, I have not asked the other questions that I probably should be asking.

Honestly though, usually when I pray for one thing, I get the oposite. Sooooooooo.....I'm sure I'll be pregnant soon if that trend keeps up.

I must admit, I felt relieved the first period I had after our honeymoon too. Marriage opens up a whole new range of emotions in regards to our cycles!

Nevaehs....just out of curiosity.....

...did you get a lot of extra cramping and PMS symptoms your first period after being sexually active? This one so far for me has been worst them most lately...and that can be hard to do!

When we first got married Micah didn't want any kids, he decided that one or two would be ok but not for at least 6 years. Then he decided it was ok to try within the first year we were married. However, God has changed both of our hearts in this area. I always tended to lean more towards being QF, but I finally had to give that up and and just pray "Lord, change one of our hearts" and it was mine that was changed.

Never know what will happen, I certainly wasn't expecting it to be me that changed.

And yes, my period after we got married and any time after we have been apart is always worse as far as cramps go.
