That is all we have used for 9 years. It has been effective. I have never gotten pregnant while using it. Even using it while fertile. It might be worth a try if you don't like condoms. We have never used a condom.

Oh, I know other people who have used condoms for years and years without any pregnancies, and they had children so they obviously aren't infertile.

In our case, it doesn't much matter because we don't want children- just throwing that possibility out there because we don't have any proof that we're not, and that may be why there haven't been any unexpected pregnancies. There is a possibility that it's not condoms that have kept us from becoming parents.

I know I'll fit in here! My husband and I were just married 2.5 months ago and will be living overseas for the next two years. Needless to say, we prefer to wait the contract out before ttc. However, if we were back home, I wouldn't mind conceiving after one year, but since we're here... we'll have to wait longer. I hope we can do it! So far, we've only used barriers, but I do have a year supply of the NuvaRing that a doctor gave me before we left... I'm just not keen on trying hormones.

ORIGINAL: Mrs.Wifey Oh, I know. I don't have any problems with you not wanting children... I didn't think you did... I just wanted to point out that we didn't have a very scientific experiment with dh and I successfully using condoms because we don't know that we could have children if we tried. Infertility is rampant and we could be a part of the numbers who are infertile and just not be aware because of our decision. Did I say something that made you think I was offended? I hope not, because I am not in any way- not even slightly. Is it that I used the word "infertile" which seems like an insult to so many women? I'm not insulted by it (or the possibility of it.) To me, it's just a fact or a description. nevaehs_gaze- I wasn't keen on hormones, either. We did that for a while, but when I started turning crunchy that was one of the first things to go. I just didn't want to put unnecessary chemicals in my body since my only goal was preventing pregnancy. It's not like I need them as medication. Why aren't you keen on hormones?

Ok, so quick question.......for most women, there are 14 days between the day the ovulate and the day they get a period, right? Also, how many days is a woman normally fertile?

I use condoms for 7 days. I have a 28 day cycle. So based on my signs and my cycle, I start using condoms 4-5 days before I think that would ovulate and then use them for 2-3 days after. That way I am covered if I ovulate a day early or late. I am so regular. This has worked for almost 1 1/2 years. You are really only fertile 1-2 days. But sperm can live for up to 4 days (sometimes longer but most die after 4 days) and that is why I do 4-5 days before ovulating. The rest of the time we don't use condoms. Just telling you what works for us.

I'm pretty much like Reach, although I am on hormonal bcp that suppress ovulation so I just guesstimate based on my cycle length and previous history. Your LP may be longer or shorter though, because of your Endo. The best way to know would be to chart for a couple months(not years and years) and see what your "norm" is.

I know of people who use spermicidal film alone and haven't conceived. They really like them as they are less messy than foam. It's riskier than other methods, (but less risky than nothing at all!!!), and it's worth a shot if everything else seems more unpleasant.

His Covenant, I was just wondering if you're so sure you don't want children, why not just get something done permanently?

Well, at this point, I'm still claiming hurricanes to be birth control....LOL! But, when he eventually comes home, we are going to try some different condoms until we find ones we both like.

You would be a good mom, His. Although you can always just be the cool Auntie. Micah has an Aunt and Uncle who are childless by choice(although there is now a child in their life) and they always send the neatest gifts.

Are we allowed to discuss different types of condoms here? I have a few recommendations...

I highly recommend the SKYN brand that I mentioned above. We've tried many kinds and this is by far the best in our personal experience. Plus, it's non-latex, so you can use oil-based lube (like coconut oil, which we prefer).

We had trouble finding the right brand, and the only ones we like are Kimono or we will use Trojans if we ran out of the other ones and are waiting for some to come in the mail.
