I'm not much into horror, purposely installing fear into myself seems rather idiotic, but I do like the Resident Evil series.

Can't wait for the fourth installment.

Resident Evil is awesome. The 4th one is looking really promising. Horror is my 2nd favorite genre,1st being comedy,. Sadly, the lack of good horror movies has left me sad. Its like every 6 months to a year they maybe either a great one or a tolerable one.

The past 5 years I could probably count on one hand the number of horror movies I went to the theatres for. and half of them were horrible. The 2 exceptions being 1408 and Saw 4. I quickly learned that horror movies were in decline after renting the remake of House of Wax (why they bothered in the first place I will never know) and going to the theatres for House of 1000 Corpses. 1000 Corpses was one big bad rip off. Well at least this october comes Saw 5

top horror movies in the last 8 years
Saw
Dead Silence
Saw 2
Saw 3
Saw 4
1408 (first movie in 15 years to make me jump)
Excorsist The Beginning

House of Wax is absolutely terrible.

The Saw series is too slaughterous for me to enjoy. Which is ashame, because the plot is incredibly unique.

I kinda want to see Black Sheep, it looks sadistically satire.

I guess after watching House on Haunted Hill remake that I thought that House of Wax would have followed suit. But unfortunatly no, Paris Hilton should have been my first warning but I forgot she was in it.

Speaking of horrible remakes, how about The Omen? The only reason why I own that movie is because it came with Collection. No Gregory Peck, means don't bother remaking it. LOL I just had to have the first 3 though, true classics.

Saw truely is a bloodbath, well all after the first one. That one was rather tame compared to the last 3. Oddly enough Dead Silence was done by the same people who worked on Saw, but minus the blood and guts. It was almost old school Vincent Price style. hich was a refreshing change in itself. It really surprised me.

Speaking of Price, do you know of any dvd collections for Vincent Price? Because they seem to be rather hard to find.

I've seen a lot of great horror movies in the past few years. Most are foreign though. The ones that immediately come to mind are:

Isolation
Frontiere(s)
Inside
13 Tzameti (More suspense...but wow)

i just did not like 1408. I wanted it to be better because I just love John C...but i was bored to tears with it.

i really think that Ringu is an excellent horror film, even the remake of it made me jump. not so much with all the Japanese remakes since that one.

I liked Saw. very unnerving. i thought about it for days afterwards. I didn't care too much for Saw II, and I didn't bother watching 3 and 4.

i agree that house of wax was a waste of celluloid. although, it was kind of fun watching Paris bite it. anything to shut her up right?

i hope my expectations for Mirrors isn't too high. i just really want to like it. i want it to scare me. i doubt it will, but i want it to.

I liked the Orphanage. It was good.

I have been reading through this thread, and I am getting some recommendations for netflix. So many movies just are plain not good these days.

I saw the preview for Mirrors. I want to see that.

i thought the orphanage was beautifully shot. it was a sad movie, and though it wasn't what i thought it was going to be, i still liked it a lot.

i also really liked pan's labrynth. not scary, but it was beautiful to watch.

Personally I miss the 70's and 80's. Those were movie glory days. Even though I was born in 79, I still can tell a difference between movies of then and movies now. Didn't matter what genre it was, you had a better shot of catching a good movie back then. Now, I am lucky if I go to the theatre's anymore than 4 times a year, not because of movie prices but because of the lack of good movies. This year alone the only movies I went to see was The Dark Knight and The new Mummy movie.

tell me about it: I guess that's why at my current age, the scariest flicks tended to be from those 2 decades--which is not surprisingly why there's been needless remakes of these good-as-is films. However, I posted a "humorous" idea for a remake, involving that notorious straight-to-video, J-horror classic, The Guinea Pig films! Care to guess which Hollywood actors I would love to see in this gory re-imagining? LOL

I just saw Mirrors last night. I liked. It has a new plot. At least something a little original. I was sucked in the end and saying come on, then there was a little twist that made me happy. :)

I am watching Prom Night. Not so bad for a teeny horror movie.
