Bailey doesn't like birds, planes or lightning. Any of those things appear, and he barks at them and chases them.

Well, this morning at about 5am, I am awakened to the sound of very loud purring. I open my eyes and there, about a foot from my face, sit my cats Phoebe and Asia, side by side just staring at me and purring..... It was almost eery.....

LOL! Good thing you can't read their minds. They were probably plotting to take over.

Wait. They are cats. They already have control...

I've always wanted a cat.....but I can't have a pet that considers Sunny and Lilly to be snack food.

I don't speak whale, but I'm very fluent in Siamese. If somebody saw my cat and me ow-WOWing at each other, they'd probably think we were crazy, but we do have some interesting conversations. He switches his tail whenever somebody talks to him. I have a friend who comes over to clean my house, and she talks to him like he's a child. The other day when I was there for lunch, she was telling him all the chores she was going to do next, and he was looking at her like he understood everything she said -- he had this look on his face like he was thinking, "Just DON'T get out that VACUUM CLEANER!!!!"

Awww! I had a cat like that. His name was Winky and he was a hoot. We'd meow back and forth and he'd just have a ball. I miss him.....

My newest one, Asia, is 1/2 siamese so we'll see how much she talks. She certainly has a loud purr......

Darcyjo - it's because of my cats (and dog) that I do not have fish, and could NEVER have any rodent or bird. I am on a cat forum with a gal who has 7 ferrets that get along great with her cat though so I know it's possible. My problem is my cat Sadie. She is so smart - she can open cabinets, drawers, doors, etc. I know she would figure out how to open their cages and it wouldn't be pretty....

Seven ferrets? That sounds like a lot of mischief concentrated in one place!

I don't think I could handle one ferret personally, but she enjoys it!

We had a smart cat like that years ago....

The feathers all over the floor really were kinda pretty!

Sigh.......never mind. If I had something bigger than a budgie, I'd introduce ya.....maybe a macaw or African Grey could change your mind. Or dismantle your house.

I know of a dog who used to ride on the vacuum cleaner.

The outdoor blower vac to clean up all the leaves? Bailey goes and drops his tennis ball in front of it and dares it to suck it up. Of course John won't, but Bailey runs in, just in the nick of time to save his beloved tennis ball before the monster gets it. LOL!

I've got dogs, a cat, birds and fish. It's my little effort toward world peace.

I did lose a few birds in the beginning. The cat would knock the cage down, it would fly apart and the terriers would get the birds. It was a furry conspiracy. I finally got smarter than the cat and the dogs, though. Took me awhile but, YES!, she can be taught!

Audrey is a cocker and a bird dog all the way - never been trained but she certainly has the instincts. Once at my aunt and uncles house they were "bird-sitting" for someone. The cage was on the floor. Audrey runs over and had her nose pushed up against the bars as hard as she could. We finally had to put the cage up on a mantel. She just wouldn't let it go. Even then, she just stared at it and did her low "woofs"!

Well Audrey has decided that the only one who can play with the kitten Asia is her. She has started chasing off the other cats when they try to play with Asia....

Audrey sounds like a little sweetie. I don't like Bailey attacking birds though. That really does disturb me.

Audrey cracks me up. She is 100% people dog and she is attached to me at the hip. Follows me everywhere. I'm her mommy and she knows it! She also has an onery side. I've never had a smart dog until her. It's kinda scary! She gets into everything. I swear she goes around the house just looking for things to "snatch" from mommy. I just keep telling her, she's lucky she so dang cute!

Last night, I braved watching Flight 93 on the history channel. I bawled my eyes out - during and after. Poor Audrey was just staring at me like, "What's wrong mom?". She seriously didn't know what to do. I kept trying to comfort her but since I couldn't stop crying it wasn't working. Poor thing was just beside herself....

I'm not a cat person. Those who have known me a while can verify that. But, we had a cat once that was in-tune with how I felt, either physically or emotionally, and would climb up on my lap or snuggle next to me in bed and give me kitty licks. I do kind of miss that cat...

Even if he DID "mark" me as his territory one time!
He was lucky he could jump fences faster than me that day!

Bailey's exactly the same with me. We are joined at the hip and I'm his mother. John and Joan are Grandma and Grandpa. Grandpa has ultimate say, but when it comes to me, I'm his absolute favourite human. We rent, so he's not allowed inside, but I think if he could be, he would be. When the glass door is over and he can't get in but knows we're on the other side of the door, he sits as close as he can to be as close as possible.

Can't say I've been "marked" but I did have a cat gift me with a half dead/half alive mouse..... on my FOOT! My current cats love to give kisses. Phoebe though could strip the bark off a tree with her tongue! I mean, I know that cats have rough tongues but hers is brutal! And of course, she's the one that just LOVES to kiss my chin! I'm surprised I still have skin left....

Audrey is funny about outside. She usually just sits at the sliding glass door and stares at me like "Aren't you coming too?".... And to think that I was excited about having a fenced in backyard so she could go outside alone.....

Bailey sits at the glass door and looks at me as if to say, "Mummy, I miss you. When are you coming out to spend more time with me?" I could have just spent an hour and a half with him, and he looks mortally wounded as if he hasn't seen me for months.

I know that look very well! My parents have a doby-rottweiler mix. Now, if I were a stranger, he would scare me to death, but to his family he's just a big weiny! I go out there and he runs up to the car and just whimpers and whines like he has been thoroughly neglected (even though my parents give him plenty of attention!)!
