I live in a "secure" building so no one can get in without a key for the entry doors so no gremlins here. But I do buy Halloween candy just in case a ghost or goblin gets in. So far none have come to my door so I have had to force myself to eat the candy so it doesn't go to waste.

I like the way you think.

I'd sacrifice myself in that way too. I'd eat the chocolate so that it doesn't go to waste. Of course, I'd have to taste it too, to make sure that it is good enough to hand out to others.

I had to dip into my second bag of Reeses but fortunately I still had some leftover.

Today was absolutely insane. We were down 3 officers - the one who was arrested and hence suspended/fired, one who is recovering from surgery and one who was on vacation. We really, really should have had overtime, but they are resisting all OT right now because of the budget crisis. There were more courts going on than officers and my poor Sgt was about to have a stroke he was so stressed. At one point, while the other floor officer and I were up in Superior Court with one group of inmates, he pulled one of the work release officers to come over and help us out.

We also had one of our frequent fliers back at the jail. I was talking with the other floor officer and commented that this particular inmate had done quite well as it had been a week or 2 since he had last been with us (usually he is arrested within a day or two of being released). The other officer then informed me that the reason it had been that long since he had been with us is that he had been in a neighbor county's jail. The day after he was released from there, he was back at our jail on new charges...

The judge apparently encouraged him to leave the county at court today.

That just seems so weird. He must like jail food.

Personally, jail food makes me nauseated just looking at it, but to each their own...

Today was busy but not as crazy as yesterday. I also learned a few things which is always nice and took my first person into custody. She was "out" of jail but was sentenced to prison in superior court this morning so I had to go up and take her into custody ("arrest") her. That was a bit different.

I also took a man to municiple court today. He is a Sudanese refugee who is a frequent flier (he needs to stay away from alcohol). He can be very hard to understand and apparently his attorney requested an interpreter for him because she was having problems understanding him. He didn't understand this because apparently the interpreter they got spoke a different dialect than he did, so HE didn't understand the interpreter...

Other than that, we stayed busy but I can't think of anything worth sharing (or anything that you all would want to hear about - trust me on that... ).

That's got to be difficult, there are so many different dialects even native speakers can't speak all of them.

Well, I worked in booking today. It was a busy day - lots of folks were arrested, but we were able to stay on top of it and the day went well. Of course, this only happened because I was with a really good officer who is a hard worker. Some of the guys back there spend more time talking than working...

Anyway, nothing exciting to report: a few attitudes but nothing major, we found a lost property bin, and I got to harrass the ICE agent which is always fun...

Today I had to get up an hour early (which is hard when you don't sleep well - ie, you have 3 cats that like to wrestle on top of you at 2am) because I was doing the "mini-chain" (prisoner transport between various jails in my state). Everything went smoothly though and no one escaped so I would call it a success.

It was rather entertaining though when we showed up at a neighbor county's jail and in walks our ICE agent... He had this look of "What in the world are you two doing here? This isn't your jail..."

One other funny tidbit was when we were hooking up (handcuffing) the inmates we would be returning with and 2 of the guys had the exact same name. We were calling out their names to make sure we had everyone and when the first guy answered, the second guy got very confused. It was priceless! When they discovered what was going on, they thought it was hilarious. They then started referring to themselves as "John Doe" 1 and "John Doe" 2...

You need to show them who's boss. Of course, I suspect they've got another viewpoint.

My Nicky wakes me up about 4:30 a.m. by raking the blinds. If that doesn't work he pushes things off the dresser.

I then go to the back door and let the other three onto the sun porch. Nicky goes to a food dish and eats for a few minutes before going out.

My Toby usually sleeps longer than I do. When he's ready to get up, he'll go sit on the corner of the bed, stare out the door, and wait for me to come get him. (I've been up for an hour now, and he's still in bed.)

Once in awhile if he wants to get up before I'm ready, he'll slowly make his way up to my head, and if I don't somehow "sense" him, he'll very lightly kiss me to wake me up. Of course I'm already awake by then (*giggle*) but I just love it so much I wait for him.

Toby still isn't up. I got worried and went in to check on him. Watched his middle really carefully to make sure it was moving when he breathed.

He's all curled up with his face buried in covers.

I wonder if I should get him up or let him sleep. It's been about 11 hours since he's gone out.

Yes, thanks for asking. I got him up around 11. But he seemed ready to get up. He went out, took his medicine, and ate. Apparently he just needs oodles of rest!

Good to hear that Toby is doing well.

----------------

Today was a very slow day in booking but interesting none-the-less. We came on to hear about one of the guys who was booked in last night. Apparently, he was rather "verbal" and very uncooperative so we needed to finish booking him once he sobered up a little. He was actually very pleasant once some of the alcohol wore off.

Then, I brought some of the female inmates to see the nurse for "sick call". One of them was possibly the snottiest person I have ever met. And that's saying a lot...

Then there was the call from the bailbondsman for a guy who the police hadn't even arrived to jail with yet...

And the day ended with the police bringing in a new arrest about 15 minutes before the end of shift. It was and out of county warrant for rape and unlawful imprisonment.

Rape and unlawful imprisonment is particularly disturbing.

I just came across the most unusual job posting yet: Head Lice Removal Tech

Who wants that on their resume!?
