I just came across this great clip of Willie and Wynton, they are releasing a dvd of one of their live performances at Lincoln Center in New York. It’s coming out on October 28th, I’m really looking forward to seeing the whole thing! Check out the clip here. Bethany Fontana

Forgive my ignorance, but Willie whom? And are we talking Wynton as in Marsalis?

A simple click of the mouse would answer your question. The band is smokin', but I've never liked Willie's voice. Do you know if that's Wynton's Lincoln Center band?

That will soon be going on my wish list. I want the CD, also. I've heard bits and pieces on XM, and it sounds great. It's funny how these odd pairings have a way of working out really well. I would never have put those two together!

ORIGINAL: uncabeeil A simple click of the mouse would answer your question. The band is smokin', but I've never liked Willie's voice. Do you know if that's Wynton's Lincoln Center band? Yes....Wynton Marsalis is the Artistic/Musical Director for "Jazz at Lincoln Center".....in 1987, he co-founded the jazz program there....and, it's been phenomenally popular.... I have been catching Wynton LIVE at concerts off and on since 1986 (first saw him at Detroit's Montreaux Jazz Festival), and, even today, I usually go to see him when the "Jazz at Lincoln Center" tour comes to town.... I remember seeing Wynton in 1990 (or maybe early 1991), while I was in art school in Cincinnati. I took my "girlfriend" at the time to see him (she had NEVER heard jazz at all)....anyway, a young boy, of about 12 years old was sitting in the audience, and he brought his trombone....Wynton noticed the kid (the glare from the brass caught his eye), and he had the boy come up on stage, and they "jammed" together for a tune.....(Wynton never ceases in his efforts to teach music and jazz to young kids....the educational programs that "Jazz at Lincoln Center" offers are spectacular..... I have many, many CDs of Wynton's music....along with his dad, Ellis....and brothers Delfayo, Branford, Jason and the rest....(I think i'll play a CD from "Live at the Village Vanguard" right now!) One of my favs is "The Marsalis Family: A Jazz Celebration"....a great CD featuring that incredibly talented family. anyone care to guess who Ellis Marsalis taught to play jazz on the piano? Harry Connick Jr. This Wynton Marsalis/Willie Nelson Collaboration is yet another instance in which great music, regardless of genre, is just that: Great Music.
