He has received no post-convention bump up in the polls. In fact, with everything pointing to the fact that this election should be a Democratic romp, it is, instead a near dead heat.

Obama, are you Obummered?

That convention was sad. All Obama's talk of change is beginning to look a lot like the Emporer's New Clothes now. He's talked about for so long but kinda walked into that convention naked! No bump.

Of course the Democrats are spinning this by saying they really didn't expect a bump.

http://thehill.com/campaign-2008/obama-advisers-expect-little-to-no-bump-from-convention-2008-08-28.html

Neither would I, after the snooze fest that was the democratic Convention.

This is looking more and more like McCain's race to lose......

And Biden had better prepare himself well for as Dubya said on another thread "Palin, being the athlete and outdoorswoman that she is, might just deck Biden".... ....lol....

Here is a quote from the same article that Tafkam linked to a few posts above:

The two men acknowledged that the race continues to be close, and they said they expect it to stay that way until Election Day. Many Democrats have expressed worry about the closeness of the race given the toxic political environment Republicans face.

"We had no illusions that this was going to be anything but close," Axelrod said, noting that in modern American politics, "there's no such thing as a landslide."

These quotes just do not even make sense. It should not be close! Everything points to the fact that it should be a landslide for the Democrats.

The man's quote that there is no such thing as a landslide in modern American politics is just not true.

What about Reagan and Mondale?

I think they are suffering from oxygen deprivation from Mile High Statium where they continue to promote their rock-star image with a following of hugh crowds.

He's up 49 to 41 in today's gallup, compared to a tie over the past couple weeks (and MCCain even topped him by a point for a couple days last week):

http://www.gallup.com

I don't think he's going to get much of a sustained bump, given how close the conventions are though.

That is really sad. That after the convention, he cannot even pull to 50%

Only in America would people be looking for a bump hours after the close of the convention <wing shakes his head>

...I'll start paying attention to polls in October...

He's higher than he's been in months, though. I don't think he's ever polled higher than a 49% on the gallup, so he did get a bit of a bump. According to the gallup the average post convention bump is 4-6 points, so that's about on target.

Plus today's Pull was conducted on Wednesday, so it was still in the middle of the convention.I don't think it will last long, though, as I'm not sure what effect McCain's VP announcement will have. We'll have to wait and see (we won't know untill like Monday or Tuesday, as there's a lag. Polls aren't instant).

But, honestly. All things considered, if the man has never even pulled 50% up until today, with the current political climate greatly favoring the Democrats, I guarantee, they are really concerned in the Democratic leadership.

Bump or no bump, (and I am grateful for their sake if they have gotten a bump) the man should be doing a whole lot better than he is doing. Something is definitely wrong here and you better believe they must be pretty concerned.

It's a shame they didn't have an Applause-o-meter.....Hillary would have buried the needle, then it could have taken the rest of the week off....

The latest excuse I'm hearing now is that the polls are off because the youth don't use land lines and the pollsters don't want to call cell phones, so the youth, who support NObama, aren't being polled. Therefor the numbers are off and NObama is doing better than the polls suggest.

Just do a search on polling and cell phones and you'll see what I mean.

Of course they poll younger voters. At the beginning, Obama was going on and on about how young voters were thrilled that he was running.

Here is the first story that came up when I did a search.

Sweet!

Like I said, it's the latest excuse. Grasping at any straw they can find to explain why he isn't running away with this. As I recall he had the same problem in the primaries, only Hillary waited too long to take advantage.

Looks like McCain isn't going to make that same mistake.
