Okay, fess up How many jobs have you had in your lifetime? What is the craziest position you've held? Which job did you love? Which job makes you look back and say-----"I can't believe I worked there!"

It's been a varied journey:
- checker at Sav-On
- accounts payable and receivable at a metal fabrication plant
- preschool teacher at two churches
- warehouseman at a medical supply store
- warehouse manager at a disc brake remanufacturer
- production control at an electromagnetic relay company
- guitar player at a church
- institutional research analyst at a private university

The common thread running through most of these is supplying needed resources to others so that they can do their jobs better.

Guitar player probably meets the I-can't-believe-they-paid-me criterion.

I was a counselor at a boy scout camp up in Wisconsin for a summer several years ago. It was my first full-time job.

It was crazy. Work would start at 7 AM and end at 9 PM every night and involve everything from pulling drowning kids out of the water to helping put together a huge 30 ft. fire that we'd do at the end of some weeks.

Ice-Cream Scooper: my first job was scooping ice cream at Mountain Delights ice cream store in the mall. To this day, I never want another milkshake as long as I live.

Secretary and Administrative Assistant: I temped a lot; mostly at Disney in Orlando. Some places I didn't like, but I got into the parks and gained some valuable experience. At the time, I thought life was going to be one big party but was immature and realized it was real work. but getting into the theme parks was great.

other temp jobs: I hated them. I wanted to do more and be more and was often put in a back room inputting data into a computer. So people treat temps like dirt, but then again, we teach people how to treat us.

Marketing Assistant: for a community college in Orlando. Nice boss, nice work, nice pay. I got bored and wanted to grow though. But I should have stayed with the company.

Marketing Assistant: for an executive search company in Los Angeles. Did background checks on people, put together marketing materials and set up appointments and travel arrangements. Doing the background check on people was very enlightening, especially on an executive level. Not only did we ask about professionalism, but how the person got along with others, how they handled conflict, etc.. I learned a lot from that one and the boss was cool.

Assistant to Tax Attorney: nice job and nice people. double-checked tax returns for accuracy, set up appointments and it was in a beautiful, trendy part of town.

Museum Store Sales Associate: sold jewelry, art and merchandise. Boring, but met nice people who looked at some of my artwork and I got displayed, and it was in a nice part of town.

Executive Assistant at a major university: Did not get along with the boss. She was micro-managing and a know-it-all, and I didn't respond well to her authority. We had different work styles. I'll leave it at that. to tell you the truth, she reminded me of my mother and I didn't respond to her authority and got insubordinate.

It's ironic you should ask this question, because this morning I was thinking what a great life I have now and how all the past experiences have brought me here and it all turned out okay.

Waitress
Dish washer
Cook's assistant
Pizza delivery
Drove a tractor in the hay fields
Engineer--designing engineering systems for television and radio stations
Lab Assistant--physics and astronomy
Tutor--math, physics, chemistry
Grader (assistant to instructor)--physics and astronomy classes
Research Assistant--Interstellar Medium, High-Energy Density Materials (aka rocket fuels)
Research Physicist--underwater acoustic propagation and acoustic/sediment interactions
Operations Analysis
University instructor--math, physics, chemistry
Course development--acoustics

My favorite jobs have been working in the hay fields, teaching and course development, research and operations analysis.

I don't have any jobs I regret.

Edit: Just remembered one job I did regret. I worked for about 3 hours "scheduling appointments" for a vacuum sales company. It was making cold calls out of the phone book trying to get people to sign up... When I quit I told them I thought the hiring practices were unethical (I was hired as a "management trainee") and that I thought their calling practices were unethical as well--we were required to get certain information from the people that led to a determination of income...and if they didn't have enough income, we were supposed to schedule the appointment anyway, but the sales person would not go....I pointed out that many of these "lower income" people would one day have higher incomes...and would not purchase from that company because of the bad treatment when they had low incomes.

My first "official" job was kinda cool - projectionist at a dinner/movie theater when I was 17. Folks could order dinner before the show and then eat during the movie. The only downside of being a projectionist is having to watch all the rotten movies, too.

10-15 -- sold watermelons in the summer and firewood in the winter with my dad
13 and up - babysitting (definitely my first "real job")
16-17 - selling tools at Sears (I think the manager was shocked that I actually knew what such things as torque wrenches, flaring tools and radial arm saws were and had used them LOL!)
17-18 - pharmacy tech
18-19 - back to Sears to sell appliances
18-22 - sold vitamins on the side
19-22 - legal assistant during the week; also did a stint at the county courthouse
19-20 - leasing condos on the weekends
20 - waitressed one summer. that was enough to put a fire under me to get my education. As much as I like people, I HATED being a waitress.
20-21 - driving dead head cars for car rental agencies -- mostly on weekends. although I did take off one week of school to spend in California. My parents about had a cow.
22-23 - legal assistant for a pretty large law firm; worked mostly with stock and bond issues.
23-33 - worked in technical support at IBM
31-39 - CEO of a nursing service
39-50 - ran a cleaning service
47-50 - school bus driver; if I had all the money in the world and could pick exactly what I want to do for a living, I would be driving a school bus in the mountains of Colorado. :D

12 and up -- babysitting. I really liked it and made decent money since I babysat a ton!

14-16 -- radish sorter. Yup, you heard me right. I stood by a conveyor belt with about 9 other people and sorted out the bad radishes so the good ones could be packaged in those little bags. It was awful! The hours usually were 7-5, but sometimes we'd be done early, but the mean supervisor (a little old lady named Edith) seemed to like me or my work ethic and nine times out of ten I had to stay the whole shift.

16-19 -- server and cook at a retirement home. That was a fun job! Even working in the dishroom was fun because we were all high school kids.

18-19 -- college work-study -- cleaned the computer lab for one hour six days a week.

19-20 -- college work-study -- cleaned the library five mornings a week at 6am!! It wasn't fun.

19-21 -- cashier and cash office person at a grocery store. I enjoyed that job. Especially working in the cash office. I enjoyed balancing all the cash drawers and preparing the deposits.

21-23 -- nurses' aide at the hospital. It was OK. I definitely earned my paycheck.

23-present -- R.N. in a few different roles. . . orthopedics, case management, and PACU ---> definitely my present job is my most favorite.

I've pretty much been in the same field since high school. Started out low, and moved up to building my own biz. I've never had a job that I hated, because I wouldn't have accepted it. Never worked in a restaurant or fast food joint... too independent minded for that.

17-21 I was a cashier at a grocery store
21-21 cashier for about 6 months at a home improvement store
21-25 bank teller
25-38 SAHM
38-now working retail

I guess out of the paying jobs I liked working at the bank the most, but working overnight at the store works better with our schedule.

Waitressing (1st job ever when I was 15/16), lots of part-time/seasonal checkout girl work, which I always have enjoyed, meeting lots of different people (student & fill-in job) & supervisory, (as got older & more experienced) clerical work, factory work, apple budding (!), telesales (briefly), personal driver (self-employed), lots of fun, but too many hours. Would love to be a social commentator, be involved in politics/ social work, as I want 2 improve the world around me within the context of the Christian faith...

I have a degree in Religion, which I got 15 years ago, so am keeping my 'hand in' the Christian scene locally, until I am able to get involved properly...
