I got a job a couple of weeks ago to save for a new computer. I'm always having to use my mom's computer because mine is not working. I'm only 16, and homeschooled. I thought that working was not going to be a big problem but I've been pretty stressed out. I haven't gotten any school done at all, except for one day when I went to my dad's workplace and hung out and took my school books with me.
I'm frustrated and feel like I get in the way. Especially because they keep having to help me use the register.(their numbering system is very confusing, it's not just me, my mom talked to some friends and they say it's really weird too)
I really don't want to get any more behind in schoolwork than I already am. It's just that I feel that as a Christian I should persevere and not quit so easily. But if it's school I'm compromising, does that really matter? I'm also afraid to quit because it seems so awkward to do, at least so soon. I haven't even gotten my first paycheck yet because of a bank glitch, and I've been working for two to three weeks. From what they said it sound like they're not paying me for my first few days! (but I may be wrong.)
What should I do? Should I quit and focus more on school?
...help!

I would think you could still get your work done. You should be able to do your school work and your job in less time than if you want to PS

I am a HSing mom who only works about 18 hrs a week but I spend a total of 5 hrs a day with it M-F because it's in 2 shifts: before and after school at a Christian school
I HS my 3 kids in between shifts

Zazzy,
Have you talked to your parent(s) about it? Or a trusted adult? It could be that someone closer to the situation could be more helpful.
For example, I don't know what hours you are working, or whether you are an organized go-getter, or whether you also have other responsibilities around the house.
Personally, I wanted my daughter to keep working to save money for college, but when her seasonal part-time job ended, she was very relieved. And her schoolwork did improve, so I did not ask her to get another job until the summer.
Most parents have their children's best interests at heart, so I would talk to them if I were you.

It was my mom who suggested I quit. I know I'm not working that many hours but it is stressful. Not really because of the work, I can handle that. As sad as it may sound it's because I have to interact with the other workers and the bosses and I have this fear that they don't like me. I know it may seem very irrational but I constantly have to ask for help on the register and its freaking me out. If I were doing dishes all day it would be no problem.
I'm also really worried about the whole paycheck thing. It sounded like I was getting ripped off. At the time I didn't think about it... I was told something like "your hours didn't get registered last week but the six hours will be transferred to next week's check" a little while later I thought about it and realized I'd worked way more than six hours last week.

when does the pay period end? Is it possible that only 6 hrs were before the end of the pay period? Sometimes they go from Thurs-WEd or something like that

Sometimes there are jobs where you feel like you should persevere but there is really some little voice in side of you begging to find some reason to stop working there.
If you are stressed, if the job doesn't complement you and the people don't uplift you, feel free to quit.
When I was 16 I did a telemarketing job. It was in an office but 2 of the 3 rooms of the office were set up like a living space with a family and kids living in them. It was charity tickets I was selling. They told us after the second day that they would pay us in cash so we didn't have to report our taxes.
I hate HATE telemarketing so I was trying really hard to persevere past my shyness and unease but the little things kept mounting and looking back now I know I should have walked out in the first 10 minutes. There were just too many little things that weren't right.
Don't be a hero if you're not happy. You can always find another job. If somethings not right don't be too surprised if they never pay you.

I would have a good look at your first pay stub and figure out if I was being cheated. If I was, I would quit immediately and then call the state board that deals with that sort of thing.
Now, I have been working a lot of temporary jobs, and I can tell you that the first few weeks are miserable, and you are tired and out of whack, but if you can last 3 weeks or so, generally it gets a lot better. And yeah, you can feel useless a lot of the time, but you will get the hang of it.
So, my advice would be to see what the next two weeks are, and if they are paying you properly in the end. If they are not paying you your due, then quit with no notice, but if they are paying you like they are supposed to, and you still choose to quit, give a week or two notice! Otherwise you will develop a bad reputation for yourself.

My thought in light of the fact that Zazzy said she likes doing dishes, and mom has health issues, and Zazzy doesn't drive, is to quit the job, and until mom and dad's business takes off, get a job as a mother's helper or babysitter type person, preferably one in which the mother can pick Zazzy up and drop her off, and save up her money from that.
Or since she is a talented artist, could she look into selling some of her artwork, or into teaching some art classes to little ones for some pay?

Thanks everybody. My mom called them this morning and told them the situation as it is. I'm sick with a bad cold. It's the thing I forgot to mention. They told me that I should come in when I'm sick, but I feel too bad to work. If I was feeling better I would have kept going a little longer. So I'm no longer working there. I think the paycheck thing is resolved too, they just hadn't made it clear before.
OneOfHisJewels: I really want to sell art, really. I'm just not sure where to start...
