what about "almost happen"? That would be standing close enough to see but too far away to do anything when my best friend almost got hit by a bus a few weeks ago. cheese, that nearly scared the life outa me.

Aside from watching someone die...
I saw a guy dive on a racquetball court and become impaled through his thigh by a board on the floor. They had to chisel it out of the floor and take him to the hospital with the board in his leg.
(Fortunately, nothing vital was hit and he was playing again in two weeks)

My sister, trapped under the car with her face against the hot manifold getting cooked. I was 4, she was 2.

Yes, she did. Despite many, many plastic surgeries, the scar never went away (amazingly, though the skin around her eye was badly burned, her eye never lost any sight). More than that, though, were the emotional and mental scars that came as a result. She lived a life of great emotional and mental turmoil and finally took her life a few years ago.

I saw an elderly woman run over by a big rig. Body was split in two & organs popped out.
Also saw someone attempt suicide with a razor. Lost a lot of blood.

Yeah, I can't compete with that.
My experience would probably be through seeing my grandma suffer from this cancerous infection on her feet. There was literally a hole in the side of one of her feet. She suffered through years with it. Brutal.

I was driving home from work one day and as I was approaching an intersection near my home I saw (maybe 500 yards or so in the distance) something fly through the air, which at that distance looked like water. As I got closer, I saw a completely mangled car and realized that the "water" I'd seen was broken glass. When I got closer and came to a stop, I saw the poor driver of the car lying in the middle of the road in a pool of blood, and there was blood flowing down the road. It was awful!
The next day I read an article about the accident, the man, who was 53, was on the way to pick up his daughter someplace when the accident occurred. I kept thinking of that poor girl waiting for her father to come, and then finding out he'd been killed. It was so sad, and I said a lot of prayers for that family!

Watching my dad beat up my mom. She suffered several broken bones and (years later diagnosed) brain damage.
I was 6 at the time and my sister was there with me, age 1. She remembered none of it.
The 2nd worst was watching my sister slowly lose her battle with cancer over a 2 year period.

Seeing a man head in a car accident stuck half way through the front windshield window.
Seeing an accident on the highway where it looked liked a hit person was decapitated.

Seeing someone stabbed repeatedly in a gang fight.
He died later that night at the age of 15.
