If i remember correctly, it was $0.79 a gallon back around 1984 -- i think it only took like $8 or $9 to fill up the tank of my 1974 Honda Civic.

I remember 25 cents a gallon back in the early 1960s. thats when i started driving and i could put in a dollar's worth and actually make a difference in the tank. (that was in Massachusetts). I never filled the tank... it was my parents' car. :)

I think it was around $.50 when I started driving in the mid-70's. I can remember buying it for my mini-bike at somewhere around $.43 a few years earlier.

I remember those days. I also remember it sneaking up to $1.14 or so, and oh! The terrible expense of the increase! It could drop to $1.50, and you'd not hear a peep out of me about oh! so expensive! quote:
ORIGINAL: Flintejae .99 cents. I think this was in 2001 or 2002. I distinctly remember thinking it was neat to know that we paid the same amount that we put in for gallons.

.50 back in the days when I needed to fill up the lawn mower before Sat. chores. Sure would be nice to have those days now!! I also remember back in the 70's when rationing made waiting for gas an all morning adventure.

I remember paying 27 cents a gallon during a PRICE WAR in 1972 when I was 20. While fairly common before the first big gas shortage in 1973-74, I haven't heard of another price war since that one in 1972.

.17 cents per gallon. Double S&H Green Stamps on Tuesdays and a free glass tumbler with a fill up. The attendant wore a uniform, checked your oil and cleaned your windows. Nowadays they stay inside, yell at you over an intercom and charge you for air.

It was around .19 cents a gallon. I remember, during college, my college big sister would try to make it to the Florida line to get a certain price. Here's a website that factors in inflation and claims gas cost MORE many years ago because income was so very low. http://www.education-world.com/a_lesson/dailylp/dailylp/dailylp076.shtml

Here in the SF Bay Area, I remember gas being $1.19/gallon, I'd say about 10 years ago.....we won't see THAT again. Today I paid $3.15/gallon at Costco, the cheapest so far in my area.

I remember there being a gas war in Flint, Michigan in the middle to late 40's. Gas went to 14 cents per gallon.

$.35 per gallon. I used to pass the gas station on my way to elementary school. We used to step on that long tube, which rang a bell to alert the gas station owner that someone needed gas. Then we would run like crazy so we wouldn't get caught. Yeah, those were the days when you didn't have "self-serve" and the attendant checked your oil and washed your windows. Heavendweller

In the mid-80s, right around the time I started driving, I worked at a gas station. The customers had to prepay for their gas. Gas was somewhere around 90 cents a gallon. They would get confused on which was the dollar amount and which was the gallon amount. If they gave me $10 and I set the pump for $10, sometimes they would only pump 10 gallons. That left me with an extra dollar or so in my drawer. quote:
