yeah...from what i have read, they really like to consider vacations and filibusters to deny current legislation...
it disgusts me...
but it's ok...if elected, they won't get anything done within the first 3 years...

Do nothing Congress
Maybe a do nothing Congress is not news unless the party in control now made that complaint just a little over 2 years ago about the previous Congress controlled by the other party.
Are you suggesting that it is nothing new that the Democrats are even better at doing nothing than the Republicans?

well, then the question remains then, are there changes that need to be made that require legislation???
(personally, i am for smaller government, and i think legislation should be as local as it can be....my mayor should matter more to me than el presidente)...

I'm not sure I'd call a 49/49 (+ 2 Indies) a Democratic Senate.
With 236 Democratic members in the House, that is a majority.

Preach on that Ben! I agree wholeheartedly. I still fondly remember those days in the '90s when the government shut down from lack of funds as a time when they could screw up so little. Now they simply refuse to pass laws which is almost as good.

I did want to add a bit about one of the "Indie" members of the Senate -

Following his 2006 election, Lieberman made a deal with the Democratic leadership that allowed him to keep his seniority and become chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee. He agreed to vote with the Democrats on all procedural matters unless he asked permission of Majority Whip Richard Durbin (a request that is almost never made or granted) in return for the committee assignments that would have been available to him had he remained a Democrat. He is free to vote as he pleases on policy matters. The 49-51 Democratic majority in the senate is in Joe Lieberman's hands. Although he is Independent, he is counted as a Democrat. Were he to switch sides, the Senate majority would be 50-50, or 49-50, erasing the Democrats' majority.
When campaigning for re-election to the Senate in July 2006, Lieberman stated "I want Democrats to be back in the majority in Washington and elect a Democratic president in 2008." Although Lieberman remained a member of Democratic Senate Majority, he ultimately endorsed Republican Senator John McCain for President in 2008.
Lieberman has since indicated that he is even willing to speak at the 2008 Republican National Convention on behalf of his friend McCain. Lieberman has been mentioned as a possible Vice Presidential nominee on a John McCain ticket.

Some of us have a problem with taxation without representation. While some of them can make laws that are detrimental to our society and then take weeks-long vacations, some of us are struggling to pay the bills.
Rather than trying to "save the world" they should try to save America.

The administration gives people who pay <$30 a year in taxes over 3k a year in income tax refunds so why not?

because in principle, the government should tax everybody at the same percent. that would be fair. anything else is not.
but of course, this is a capitalist society, so if we want a free market, with as minimal control as can be, then we have to keep the government out of the equation as much as possible.
