The Biggest Loser begins next week, September 15, 8:00 p.m., NBC network. A contestant from the last cycle, Dan, is returning for further time at the ranch. He is the one who was the heaviest contestant at 454 lbs. I hope he can lose more this time. He looks like a nice kid with a lot of potential.

I'm all fired up that Dan is coming back! He got the raw deal last season since his "friend" was such a dumb-dumb. I think he'll do really well this time.

Do you think he will be heavier or lighter when he comes back?

I think I like it better when Bob and Jillian have their own teams.

Does anyone remember how much the woman that was in the 470s lost? I missed her weigh-in.

This was such an emotional episode!!

Solo-- I think you mean Shay. If I am not mistaken she lost 17 pounds. I am still not sure how they lose that much in one week. I thought it was so sweet for Dan to pick her for his team.

17 pounds according to the website. I kept thinking it was 18. Oh well, poor memory. She did a great job but there for a while I was worried that she would quit. She has such a long journey ahead of her. I hope she sticks with it. Thrilled that she and Dan are a team!

Anyone picked favs yet?

Abby certainly has the emotional vote. How tragic that she lost her husband and two young children in a car accident 2 years ago. I'm pulling for them all!

Thanks, y'all. I knew she prob. lost a lot cause she has a lot to lose.

Part of me wonders if the workouts are too strenuous for their weights and their starting-off points. I know they say they are under medical supervision, but it seems like they go from basically sedentary to very hard workouts within the day. Maybe I think too much, but it seems like it might be a shock to do that so quickly.

I was wondering the same thing actually and was going to ask that question. It does seem like they go from nothing to all out. Like the woman who collapsed on the beach. Is it really reasonable to expect a person of that weight to walk or run a mile. What got me was how they kept trying to get her up and make it across the line. She was clearly in trouble and I know she wanted to finish but still. Did they ever say what had happened I didn't hear.

I always thought a person should start out slow is it really good for a person to work out so hard they are throwing up? I like the show but I am starting to question some of the stuff they do. I think most of the winners except a couple have gained back a lot of the weight they lost.

Yeah I've always said that I don't like what they do because its so unrealistic and most of them have relapsed after the show, and every year they are making it more extreme. No one in real life will advise someone to run a marathon in 30 days of training, even if they are in shape. Jillian in particular is somewhat of a hypocrite - I bought her latest book and it started off okay but then she got too extreme. She says no diet pills and then came out with a line of supplements but says they aren't diet pills..among other things. No one should feel like that they have to work out 4-6 hours a day like they do on the show.

I had the discovery health channel once and I liked their body challenge because it wasn't as extreme.

The last I saw, she was still in the hospital. They showed her in the hospital bed when they took the trip to that clinic.

What bothers me really, is that-- how she was in trouble, and even though she said she wanted to finish, I wouldn't have let her once she collapsed. I think she maybe overdid it at the first, because she started out running uphill, and I think she was the only one. When I was in college, none of my professors would ever let us do that if we collapsed from exhaustion/heat in exercise classes. I know the others were just trying to help because they know she wanted to cross the finish line, but it still would have been a no-go (unless we could walk on our own).

I think they try to put a rush on it b/c they only have so much time. Or maybe they are trying to get them to lose weight fast because they know they might be going home soon, and they want them to lose as much as possible to give them a head start. But really, I'd rather see it be a year-long show and with a slower, steadier pace than with a short-term show with a much faster pace. I can see speeding things up like that once they build up endurance, but I don't think it's a good idea to "shock" people's systems like that.

Oh I totally agree.. also the diabetic guy ended up in the hospital as well with blood sugar and dehydration issues.. I don't know how well they teach them to pace and snack and monitor themselves either.. but from the editing doesn't look like they do.

I agree that the workouts start out to strenuous for the contestants. I would hope and expect that they have all had a medical checkup before they start, to make sure their hearts can tolerate the extreme workouts they will be doing.

I am pretty sure they do have check ups before they start. It did bother me that they carried her through the finish line instead of having the medics start working on her when she first went down.

I don't think going for a mile was too strenuous...it was the running that was too strenuous for Tracy.

I have both likes and dislikes about Jillian.
Like why does she feel she needs so many books? And it is not like she writes them as topics come up... she kept posting on Twitter one week about making herself finish her new book.
And she seems to be on a lot of talk shows and stuff now. How did someone so mean get to be so popular?
And I can't believe how much it is to sign up for her website. I forgot to cancel my membership before the trial was up and got charged $55. Ack!

I do think her workout videos are good though.

Jillian claims the fat burner stuff she put out is supplements she has been promoting all along, but better because they have no soy or not chemicals and stuff like that. I looked into them, but I'd rather not take supplements with caffeine.

I have a lot of respect for Jillian. I don't see anything wrong with her wanting to get her message out there and make some money in the process. Isn't that the american way?

I know she used to be very overweight and lost it and ended up becoming a personal trainer. So, she has other motivations behind her. Of course on the tv, all we see is the "mean" Jillian. However, some people NEED that!!!!!!! Why pay that kind of money for a trainer who is not going to push and challenge you?

Yeah, but it's like the other trainer doesn't have to be that way to motivate people and challenge them. I think that's just the way she operates in training people.
