Have any of you used this service? The financial and tech guru in the Atlanta area tried it and says it's the real deal, but he still cannot figure out how they turn a profit with such low rates. (It's a land line tied to the computer ... unlimited calls for around $40 a year to anywhere in the U.S. and Canada.) I want to know do you need a computer that has a land line to use the service ... or can it work with wireless as well?

I actually have a client that uses it to make calls throughout the US, mexico and Brazil for their company. It seems to work pretty well. thic company actually bought the phones that go along with the service, but to my knowledge you don't have to have the phones to get it to work. I am also in the atlanta area. I don't think you need a land line. it works through the service with is IP based in nature. the software has to be running on a computer and have an internet connection. you should be able to download the software freee and use a head set and mic to test it out.

yes clark is the man. as far as running on a wireless laptop your reception may not be as clear as you would like, but it should work granted they aren't blocking any ports needed. I would suggest downloading it and trying it on your system. I think it i is still free for the software..

ORIGINAL: Psalms274 Thank you for the answer .... I want to be a little clearer with my question though ... I meant is it possible to connect through a wireless laptop that piggybacks on a neighbor's modem? Mhm! I have the free version and I use it with a few friends of mine every now and then. The reliability may not be so great if you don't have a strong signal, but it ought to work.

Its an internet based protocol that resides on the host computer so as long as your connection is fast enough and you have enough resources left on your computer it should work. I tried it but I couldn't get the Philips Skype phone to work and when I called to get tech help the guy suggested I return it and buy one from another company. So much for tech support. Uninstalled Skype and never tried again. I know it used to be resource heavy but I've heard they have corrected that already.
