Server Time Slow - 6/11/2008 5:01:52 PM

Status: offline 		This is pretty minor, but I thought I'd share...

I noticed that the Server Time (on FCN) is about 5 minutes slow. The only reason it caught my attention was that I made minor edits to a couple posts today and they had the "Edited by" message that's usually delayed. Then I began noticing that the time-stamp of any post I made was 5 minutes off, So I went to the official US time clock and verified my PC was correct.

I checked just now, and the FCN clock, my computer's clock, my Atomic clock and the nist website are all in sync.

It is almost an hour since you made your post. Maybe there are temporary lags (I havae only checked when ou posted now and the other day), or something, but I am not noticing the problem at all.

(Not saying you aren't--just saying it is fine here )

I made the above post at 4:10, but it shows as 4:04

But, on the main forums page, the time is right.

Status: offline 		I did not notice the current server time on the main page before. But posts definitely show a several minute delay, resulting in those annoying "Edited By" messages much earlier than they used to. Other than that, I don't suppose it hurts anything.

I wonder if being out of sync is causing the runtime errors! They are certainly getting worse.

No, it's the other way around. However time is kept makes it seem like almost 5 minutes have past the instant you post. With just a little delay in making a minor change, the forum code decides you've gone too long and inserts the "Edited" message.

So instead of having about 5 minutes to make a change, you get less than a minute...

I don't think so. It's happened before, and they had do something, I can't remember what. There is a thread about in feedback somewhere where they talked about this but I have no clue where.

Status: offline 		Would this account for why you seem to get the Flood Control message even after a couple of minutes has elapsed, for both posts and (especially) private messages? With private messages it can take forever to be able to reply, if you're having an exchange with someone.

Fritz--

The server time on the main forums page matches the clock on my computer and the atomic clock in the living room, as well as the nist site.

I posted the above post at 1:04 and maybe ten seconds, but it shows up on the post as 12:58:44. Somewhere up there, I posted and edited each minute until the edit message showed up. I think it took four minutes for me (and I thought the edit time was two minutes, so I was getting more time than I thought I had). When the message showed up, it matched the server time on the forums main page, not the time it was showing on the OP.

The post times do not match the server time--that is what Jimbo is talking about.

I did find a post a long time ago in this folder where the post time was several minutes *ahead* of the server time.

I never noticed it before. I don't think it bothers me--I have sticking keys on my computer, so I edit messages all the time to add them back in . But that is what Jimbo is talking about.

It is.

Post something and look at the time stamp on your post. It doesn't match your PC or the main page, it's about 5 minutes or so off.

(you can see from the edit, which was done within 60 seconds of posting, that this is the case)
