Regarding Others: Why Do People Matter? T.M. Moore - BreakPoint It matters a great deal how we think about other people. We encounter people every day—in our homes and schools, at work, in the grocery store, at the gas station, in crowds, on the highways. Most of the time we don't regard people much at all. We avoid eye contact, rarely offer a greeting, and only seem to notice others when we want something from them or they've done something to tick us off. Instinctively we know this isn't right. But how do we overcome this natural indifference, even hostility toward others? Paul tells us: Do not regard others according to the flesh. Instead, regard them as we regard Jesus. Easy enough to say. But how do we practice this? Regarding Others: Why Do People Matter? What makes you want to respond to people with indifference or even hostility?

Fritz, your questions are always terrific! Here's my outlined take (yes, I am the daughter of an engineer - why do you ask? ): - people are no darn good (sinners) - God saw that people were lost in sin, and loving them and wanting them back, died to pay their debt to get them back - if people are so important to God then they have to be important to us, to love them and pity their lostness and see them come back to God I respond with indifference or even hostility because I'm a sinner, too. C.S. Lewis said that hell could be recognized by the relentless pursuit of self, or something like that. Our sin is often expressed in wanting something for ourselves at the exclusion/hurt of others. So when I see my selfishness, I can confess that as sin and contrary to where God is coming from. Rom. 8:29 says Christians are predestined to become like Jesus, and Jesus gave up everything to buy people out of the slave market of sin. Lost people are His priority; so it must become ours. May God give us the grace to follow hard in His footsteps, to love the brethren and speak salvation to the lost.
