Has anyone read Pilgrims Progress and what were your thoughts? I'd read it before though this time round I was impacted at what a blessing it really is and i felt that they should make a film about it.
I liked the way it met with and dealt with different characters similar to the ones we meet in our daily lives and it was interesting to follow how Christian (the main character) dealt with things. The discussions and debates that the characters had was very good also, and these were among some of the most frequently asked questions we have about God. Like I say I think a film produced of this book might be really evangelistic as everything is so well expressed.
It'd be good to hear your thoughts?

I've never read it but I'm very interested in reading this a long with the other two books at the top of my must read list, "Paradise Lost", and Goethe's "Faust"...

I would love to see it turned into a movie based on what I read/know about it. Just they'd need to change some of the names. Let us use our brain a little. I don't like it when they give characters cheesy names like "Atheist" or "Evangelist" or whatever. If the character reflects those characteristics, such obvious names are not needed and takes away some of the depth IMO.

This used to be nearly gospel. Suppossedly at one point (in the 18th and 19th centuries) nearly every English speaking house had two books: The Bible and The Pilgrim's Progress. Now people don't read it as much anymore and it's kind of fallen out of favor.

I read it way back in GRade school and didn't like it much. Even back then I thought it was way to literal and hamfisted in its allegory, to the point of being really 1 dimensional and boring. It's worth reading for a historical view of the sort of theology and morality that existed at the time (if that interests you), but I've never been all that compelled by it as just a "book."

"Paradise Lost" and Goethe's "Faust" are great, though, and definitely worth reading. I'd suggest reading them before "Pilgrim's Progress."
