National Novel Writing Month 2009 --- you in? I am!

What are you doing during October to prepare? Or are you going to "wing it" on November 1?

Here's to "30 days and nights of literary abandon"!!!]

i think this will be my 6th year. i'll have to double check that, but i'm pretty sure that is correct.

stella talked me into giving it another go.

I might try out for this. It depends on how the Lord leads.
God bless,

For anyone who has a Gmail/Google account, a fellow NaNoWriMo has created an awesome app for novel writing. You can preview it at www.mywritingnook.com. It requires you to sign in and it's basically a Google app. It saves your stuff on the Google servers, so you can access it anywhere that you have internet access. You can back up your stuff by emailing your docs or downloading them. Totally free!!!

I think I'm going to try to do it this year. I've been looking for a writing group in my area so that I can meet with other writers. There is something here but the actually meetups have not yet been scheduled. I'll check today.

Just being with people helps me tremendously when it comes to writing.

I personally am not, BUT my husband and 2 of my children are giving it a go.

Hubby is doing the adult version, but the kids (almost 12 and almost 16) are doing the youth version where they can set their own goal and work toward that!

Just keeping them on track with this and with school work and keeping the other two kids on track - well that's more then enough work for me!

Blessings,

Garsy

I am stellaluna. But I'm about a thousand words behind. However I have the entire day off today, so I'll have plenty of time to write :) I was a little blocked yesterday and then I switched the focus to another character (new chapter). All of a sudden the words came pouring out. It was moving too much in a sci-fi conspiracy direction without enough emphasis on the characters. The main idea is starting to percolate (spelling?) in my mind - and I'm so excited to see what is going to unfold. I love writing!

I've identified a few writer's groups in the area and am planning to meet with them at least once a week during nano. Are you writing alone stellaluna - or with a group?

I've got 730-something words right now. Sooooooo behind. But that's OK. Every little bit closer to 50K is still closer. And I'm still getting to know my characters... and plot? Well, I liken myself to Rodin chipping away at the stone, to reveal the figure "trapped" inside --- the plot will eventually reveal itself.

I'm ElaineStuart over at NaNo if you want to "buddy" me.

Since this year has been a fairly bad writing year for me, I decided to jump in.

I'm happy with the story, but I am 13K words behind schedule. I'd love weekend to get caught up. One way or another, I need to finish. My publisher surprised me with some good news last Friday and I'm determined to get her more work to sell.

I'm really behind, and unless I really buckle down, I'm not going to make it. Doesn't help that I have a graduate school paper, a script, and 30-something articles to write for an online site.

But we'll see how it goes. Anyway, back to work!

My kids are behind too. But school comes first and both of them missed a day of that this week due to illness. That and fighting for computer time isn't very conducive to getting much done. Plus they are working to bring grades up. School first - NaNo - second. Sorry writers!

Blessings,

Garsy

I'm really trying to get caught up. I definitely want to win this year. I made some progress this evening, but I'm still 5,000 words behind. I think I can get a chunk of that out of the way tomorrow and then next weekend is a long one for the holiday and I don't have any plans.

Is anyone still in besides me? I managed to write 7,000 words yesterday and I'm more than caught up now. Hoping to finish tomorrow. I hate my story, I hate the people in my story, it's dumb, etc. but at least I'll finish.

I limped across the finish line yesterday evening 50,157. I gotta say that I am enjoying this book, though. I didn't quite make it to THE END, but I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully, it'll be my third published novel. Number 2 is awaiting revision.

You don't have to wait until next year. There's nothing that says you can't do it on your own. Just pick a deadline and go.

Or if you like the camaraderie, you could do Script Frenzy in April. You wouldn't have to write a script if you didn't want to. Write a novella. The goal is to get 20,000 words in 30 days. That might help you get your confidence up.

On a slightly side note, I was so bummed that my stats say that I only won NaNo in 2007. Last year I finished up a totally ****py novel and submitted it. This thing was so bad that I had to introduce a super spy about 3/4 of the way through just to make it to the end. Anyway, I think I screwed it up with my scrambling efforts.

I noticed this year, when I scrambled the doc, I lost about 2,000 words. I finally got it to work, though. I'm wondering how I didn't notice this last year if that is what happened. I could've sworn I downloaded the winner certificate though. Of course I can't find that now, either. Maybe it was all a big dream....

Sorry for rambling.....

Thanks for the encouragement. I didn't know about script frenzy. I'd like to do that - just for the comraderie! I've got Book in a Month - but found it to be too structured to do for the first pass - although i thought it would be a good guide for the second pass and for editing. I might dust that off and try again.

Congrats again - glad you got the scrambler to finally work properly so that you could get the certificate!

Hey, I didn't know there was a NaNoWriMo thread here! I won, by the way, with 50,018 words, but I reached that point on a literal cliffhanger. I am still hoping to finish the story, but there's just no motivation at the moment.

Glad you found us.

I was in the same boat as you. I just barely finished on time. however, I've continued working on the story and now I'm almost finished. I had a great writing day yesterday. 2200+ words! I'm entering the resolution. Whoo hoo! The plan is to let it sit for a month after I finish then revise and submit it to my publisher. I can't wait to have more books out.
