Monks brawl at Christian holy site in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM – Israeli police rushed into one of Christianity's holiest churches Sunday and arrested two clergyman after an argument between monks erupted into a brawl next to the site of Jesus' tomb.

I think this is silly. What are your thoughts?

It is a silly but common occurance and why the keys to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre are entrusted to a Muslim family.

I guess you could say the monks need to get a life, but since that *is* their life...

Have you ever read about THE LADDER? (Scroll down to "Status Quo.")

I could see it as a Monty Python skit.

That doesn't seem that odd to me, considering those of the Muslim faith consider Jesus to have been a profit.

I think it is disgraceful that either of these groups think they have a monopoly on these religious sites that probably aren't even the sites where Jesus was Crucified, Buried or Resurrected. They seem to put more value on the places where they think these things occurred, than on the actual events themselves. I would think being men of the clothe and being shepherd's of the Lord's flock they would be more likely and more concerned with setting an example of what the "Fruit of the Spirit" is; love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance.

No, I had not read about the ladder. The whole thing points out how ridiculous things can get when the church does not keep priorities straight.

It always makes me sad to read about stuff like this. Last year there was a fight between monks at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem because, if I recall correctly, one of them swept the floor a little too far and went into the other denomination's part. That kind of stuff is a very poor witness for Jesus and makes us as Christians look ridiculous.

I can only speak for myself. To me it doesn't make Christians as individuals look ridiculous. Rather, it solidifies my belief that Religions™ are completely ridiculous, and get in the way of spirituality.

Cheers,
