Hi, I' m 37 and always wanted my ears pierced. Now it is fairly common to see men with pierced ears. I figure that at this point I know it is something I want. I just pierced my ears and really like it. I like nice clothes and have a bit of style, and I think it suits me, I wear very tiny little studs now and maybe later some hoops that don't draw a lot of attention, kinda downplayed.
I am a member of a Baptist church which I love. I don't plan on wearing earrings at church or if I am teaching a Bible study. I don't wear t-shirts and jeans to church either, I dress approprately for the Lord's house.
To me pierced ears is a personal thing. I can't find any biblical reason against having my ears pierced, but I don't want to offend anyone who doesn't understand. I just like pierced ears, plain and simple, it means nothing else to me. But I understand that not everyone would feel that way.
What do you think?
I'd love to hear your opinions on this....

Then, by all means, you should have them!
I have no objection...but, imho, it's just so 80's!

Well, since you've already decided('I just pierced my ears'), why should anyone else care unless they're judging you? People will do what they will; just don't be accused of the same.

They're your ears so I'm not sure why some would have a problem with it. I don't think less of men who pierce their ears (I have 2 male cousins that have both ears pierced!). It's not just a "female thing" to have pierced ears, and I really don't give a second look when I see a man with earrings.

If having pierced ears is OK, which I believe it is, then it was ALWAYS OK... and those who cast folks out of the church in the 60's were wrong. Culture has a history of defining what the church thinks, even though we know better.
Makes me wonder what we're casting folks out for NOW that we'll regret in the future.

Well, I don't understand your conviction of not wearing jeans and t-shirts to church... but that would be best for another thread I suppose.
If there is no problem with having pierced ears, why don't you want to wear the earrings to church?
Also, don't you have to leave them in for so many weeks before you can remove them?

I wouldn't wear my piercings to church, just like I wouldn't wear cut-offs and a wife beater. I'd take them out for family gatherings, just like I wouldn't sit around drinking beer, with my family.
And yeah, you're not taking them out before the holes have closed, are you?

I wear my piercings to church. But, then again, I'm female and they are on my earlobes. However, we have guys who wear piercings. I never heard anyone make a comment about it.

Would your boss approve? I know some white coller jobs wouldn't approve of such a thing because it may not look professional to them.

Why would someone go to the trouble of getting their ears pierced and then not wearing earrings to church?
There's nothing unbiblical or sinful about a man with a pierced ear.
In fact, men used to pierce their ears as a sign of being the Lord's bond servant, didn't they?
If your church would seriously frown on such a thing, maybe they have some conviction coming their way instead of you.

As I posted earlier, there's a time and a place for everything.
Perhaps he doesn't want to potentially draw attention to himself, when all eyes should be on the sermon.
Or he doesn't feel like dealing with annoying questions and comments.

I think men (or boys rather around my age, ha! ha!) with pierced ears are cute. It gives that bad-boy look with out the bad-boy attitude. I am totally up for u pierce it.

I had my ear pierced once, back in the 80's. It got infected though, so I had to take it out!
Some contemporary men wear earrings in both ears. There's nothing feminine about it, they are just trying to be hip!

In many conservative Baptist circles where I live, wearing earrings would invite someone's grandma to GRAB you by that ear, and haul you in front of an elder.
But this is a cultural thing, and I personally don't have a problem with it.
But again, I personally have heard some serious ranting and raving from older, more conservative church members, who are extremely offended by earrings on men (and jeans, and tanktops, and dancing, smoking, cards, movies, rock music, junk food, alcohol, gambling, makeup, and showing up to church without any pantyhose on)
ETA - Keep doing what you're doing, and maintain a conservative and respectful appearance at church. Avoid gray areas completely, and just don't go there. We're to maintain unity in the bonds of peace. That means not doing anything to tick off someone older and wiser than you.
Earrings are viewed by some to be effeminate, hence the controversy.
Edited to add: I DID have to find a church where people are ok with makeup!

Yep. Also, in some prison cultures it was a sign of availability. Right ear: avialable. Left ear: taken.
Now it is just a sign of being hip. It's not something that going to send one to hell/

It truly does depend on the culture. There is nothing in the Bible that expressly forbids men wearing ear rings, thus you must determine if it is wise in your situation.
There are certain things worth "dying" for, and other things that simply are not a big deal. I just left a church where the pastor was doing some very questionable things, morally, but people didn't want to do anything about it. That, in my mind, is something worth fighting for. The church I joined in its place is in a much better situation. At this new church, however, it would be difficult to wear jeans and flip flops. Though no one would trouble me for it, it would cause some of the elderly folks to be uncomfortable. In this situation, what is more important - me wearing a certain type of clothing for the sake of my supposed liberty, or taking the extra effort to dress up for two hours as to not make anyone in the church uncomfortable?
In your situation, I would ask the same situation. If you think it would offend people, then ask yourself if it is a battle worth dying for. Is it something where you can take a last stand? If not, and you know it will cause problems, it might be wise to just avoid it for now.

Paul DOES say that women are to dress as women, and men as men.
A lot of the people in our churches, rightly or wrongly, believe earrings are for women.
Thus, earrings are seen by MANY to be effeminate, therefore wrong...
