I don't understand how a free trade agreement can work if there is no accountability. Why was this "Fontera" and "Sanly" exempt from external quality control? If these are the benefits of free trade then every degenerate man and his dog has got free licence to kill! Scary!

quote:
Hong Kong authorities said they found melamine in three other products: Pocky Men's Coffee Cream Coated Biscuit Sticks (made by Japan's Ezaki Glico Co) and Walnut Cakes and Coconut Cakes (made by China's Tian Le Yuan Foods) " Yes, her there was a lolly called "white rabbits", not sure what else, if any. quote:
No accountability going on in many industries imports for sure! Don't understand why thins issue doesn't get addressed more thoroughly. I pegged it as a problem to do free trade at the outset but I wasn't quite sure if I understood rightly.

Unfortunately or fortunately (depends how you view it) with free trade agreements much of the labour is being performed in China or Thailand or Philipines (can't spell that) or Indonesia- that is where most of the ridgy didg, true blue Aboriginal boomerangs come from these days. Another thing that is happening is with all the cheap clothing. Many buy a new set each week and you can imagine it will be a nightmare for recycling and most will end up as land fill.

Can't get over this, what is this world coming to ? I do agree plus I do get sensitive an alergic some times with processed and other food..and for a while since the imported seafood situation I always look where my fish is comming from...few weeka ago at Big Walmart there was a choice between the ones made in Thailand and others in Lousiana...for sure I'm choosing domestic. Plus I do not go to Red Labster anymore to eat seafood well I am avoiding to expend money at restaurants anyways making my own or going peoples home etc I do buy my meat and mostly my fresh producesat Whole Food and in a emergency at Publix. Walmart I do buy other brand stuff because is cheaper, I do buy all domestic products, as state grown also. Tainted Chinese Imports are common

Adoptive parents of babies from China are encouraged to have their children tested. Read full article here. quote:
Parents who recently adopted babies from China should take them to the doctor for a thorough examination of their kidneys, a B.C. Lower Mainland pediatrician who specializes in foreign adoption medicine is advising. "Please have your baby seen by a pediatrician," Dr. Sue Kalaher told CBC News on Thursday. quote:
"I'm checking them to see if they have crystals in their urine and see if they could possibly have had kidney stones, which is quite unusual but directly related to the melamine," she said. In the short term, adoptive parents should watch for vomiting, dehydration and low energy in their adopted babies, she said, but "we really don't know the long-term consequences of melamine." quote:
...all babies adopted from China within the last three years should be tested for signs of melamine. "For sure they should be talking to the doctor immediately and have their kidneys and other functions checked in light of what's happening," Chalke said Wednesday. There are already adopted children showing small stones in their kidneys, which consist of melamine instead of the standard "crystal" kidney stones. Doctors are studying how to respond and treat these little babies. For those parents who have adopted, this is quite a difficult situation.
