And He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." ~ Matthew 4:19 I always thought the verse read Come to Me, and I will make you fishers of men. It doesn't and I am glad. It is our act of following Jesus. Are you following Him and are you a fisher of men?

In my KJV it does say: "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." In my NIV it says: Come, follow me and I will make you fishers of men." I'm following Him and not being very far away from the Lord at all times. Thank you for this. Connie Lou

Your welcome. Actually I am one of those prone to saying that the NIV is the "Nearly Inspired Version." There are so many scriptures missing in that version!

Not exactly. He is my life. He guides and controls me from within as I grow in my dependency on Him. He is the Head of the Body, which I am a part of, but I live my life by faith in Him. Grace and Peace

Well, I am not going to quibble with you. But, you are speaking in platitudes and generalities as if they say the same thing as what I am saying. Again, we don't follow Jesus. If we are "following" Jesus that implies He doesn't live in us. And if He doesn't live in us, we don't belong to Him. And if we don't belong to Him, we are not saved. He goes with us wherever we go because He indwells us. The Christian life is learning to trust His leading from within as we go through life. Take care Pops... Grace and Peace

I think that He can live in you and that you can follow Him.

From the Young's literal translation Matt 4:18 - 20 (YLT) 18And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon named Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a drag into the sea—for they were fishers— 19and he saith to them, ‘Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men,’ 20and they, immediately, having left the nets, did follow him. I have heard "follow me" preached as "chase after" meaning that it to be an intense effort at becoming like the Master.

We follow Christ to where He went, and where He went was to the cross. We are then raised to life in Him, so that He can then lead us through His indwelling Spirit. Jesus takes us by the hand (for this analogies sake) and leads us...and He never lets go. No, not ever. We are extremely nearsighted, but He can see clearly...and without Him leading us, we will fall flat on our face. Peace
