I would appreciate some success stories from parents of HS kids who have moved on to college Armed Service and/or jobs. Thanks

My sister in law is #4 out of 6 homeschooled children. She is absolutely delightful. She finished her bachelor's degree in 3 years, astounding my brother (her husband). Her degree is in Literature of some kind, I think with a minor in education. She married as soon as they had graduated, so I think she was only 21, but still she manages their household, holds down a job, and has been continuing her education. She went to a private college in the Seattle area.

My two daughters are great homeschool success stories! We homeschooled them from elementary(they were in 1st/4th grade when we began) and we continued through high school.

Our oldest(now 24) joined the Navy and was one point away from a perfect score on the ASVAB, and because of the job she wanted, she also took the DALB. They said she scored higher on that than they had seen in 13 years. She got an amazing enlistment bonus and was assigned one of the three hardest languages and became an Arabic linguist. She is fluent in about 5 different dialects. She's married now and planning on going to art school when their tours are finished.

Our youngest(now 20) began college at 16 and transfered to a University as a junior at 18. She maintains a perfect GPA and has earned several scholarships and awards because of her grades. She is majoring in non-profit management and has already had several professors offer to write her letters of recommendation for grad school. She has was originally a physics major before she felt God changing her direction.

Both are amazingly responsible, level-headed girls who are involved in volunteer and community projects. They make friends easily and are very well-rounded and seem to impress professors and supervisors with their work ethics and abilities.

I'm not proud of them or anything

My #2 son is a success story. He is 19 years old, has a full-time job at a Federal Detention Center, a part-time job at a grocery store (because he wanted something to do on his days off), and has his own apartment. He pays his bills on time, has a car and a savings account. He has very good work ethics and is an all around great young man. (if I do say so myself ). He was homeschooled from 8th grade until he graduated a year ago.

These are very encouraging stories to me!! As high school approaches, I am getting all the initial fears and worries of homeschooling again. I know it can be done... so why fear???

Oh, I forgot...our youngest is also moving into her own apartment next month.

I had some fear too. I think it's natural as they enter the last phase of school and we start thinking about them really being on their own soon. I kept wondering if I had done enough to prepare them and if not, how could I manage to cover it all in the last couple of years! I felt time slipping away and it was a little scary. But God is faithful, and just as He led us through the early years of homsechooling, He led us through the high school years too. I DID learn to pray more during those years!

My siblings and I were homeschooled, never went to public/private school. I've been active duty Air Force for almost 8 years now, two career fields, aircraft maintenance and linguistics.
My sister is a dental assistant and does such a good job her boss is willing to do whatever he needs to to keep her working there, she's started to get bad reactions to latex lately.
My brother spent four years in the Marine Corps, infantry, and one of my friends growing up joined the Army and went to college for some sort of Physics degree.
I haven't kept up with any other homeschoolers I used to know.

I was homeschooled through high school. I married another homeschooler, and we have six kids of our own and homeschool them. I did not go to college, but my husband did (after we had already had four kids) and he graduated Magna Cum Laude and is not a full time pastor.

Of our homeschooled siblings that have graduated, two have graduated from college. One went to a tech school and has a good paying job, a wife and two kids, another went to Bible College and is an inner city missionary with her husband and daughter. Three other siblings have recently married, and another sibing has had a good job for several years and has recently gone back to school with her husband and daughter.

My oldest son graduated from our homeschool two years ago and went straight into the Army. He worked a full-time job for an HVAC company from age 16 until he left for the service.

My oldest has just started her second year of college, and she's doing very well. She has a 3.9, and she has only taken core curriculum so far. I actually told her to lighten up and take a fun class or two.

My second oldest is a senior this year, and she has been taking classes at the local college and doing very well.

Two things have become apparent. They have a very good ability to manage their time and to discern intellectual dishonesty -- especially as it relates to anything Christian. I'm convinced these abilities were developed and honed with homeschooling. Perhaps they would have developed these if they had been publically schooled, but I don't believe it would have been to the degree they possess now. Too much time would have been wasted deprogramming them.

Well, this is only my daughter's second day of college, but she has already tested out of the language proficiency requirement (she thinks) and the Calculus requirements (she is 100% positive on that!).

She feels a deep peace about her choice, is grateful for an extremely compatible roommate, is looking up campus ministries already and has made herself right at home.

Like I said, she's only been there two days so far, but the peace and confidence she has make me feel she is a success story already. After all, it was the playing nice with the other children that we were most concerned about.

Well, not that concerned, but we know that's where everyone expects home schoolers to fail, in "socialization".

My oldest two children love God, each other, and their families. #2, a daughter, married a classmate of #1, a son. The affection among our four children (and our son-in-law) is an ongoing source of delight to us as parents.
