The scripts of four uniquely Australian films have been nominated in the Original Feature Film category: The Black Balloon by Elissa Down with Jimmy the Exploder; The Tender Hook by Jonathan Ogilvie; Cactus by Jasmine Yuen-Carrucan; and Acolytes by Shayne Armstrong and Shane Krausewith with Jon Hewitt.

It’s a great year for television with soap favourites Home and Away and Neighbours vying for an AWGIE in the Serial category; episodes of All Saints and Love My Way up against new kid on the block City Homicide in the Series category; Stupid, Stupid Man, Wilfred and three episodes of Chandon Pictures all nominated for the Situation or Narrative Comedy Award; and The King: The Graham Kennedy Story by Kris Mrska with Jaime Brown and The Informant by Greg Haddrick named as nominees in the Telemovie Original category.

This is what's going on this year. I volunteered to help out ushering. So I will get to see what goes on. I'd much rather be there when I have something to show myself though. Still I am honoured to be given the opportunity to take part!

In the U.S., we have so many I can't name them all. The primary ones are the Oscars (for film), the Emmies (for TV), and the Tonies (for stage productions). But they are so elite, I don't think they would take volunteer ushers (although I've never asked).

I bet you'll have a great experience. Enjoy yourself.

I didn't ask, I was asked. Chiefly because I am at RMIT doing an advanced diploma in screen writing. My teacher sent out an email and the first 5 students who answered got the chance to be ushers. Grant Sicluna is one guy who did RMIT. He got an intern ship as assistant director next to Bruce Beresford on Mao's Last Dancer, which was written by Jan Sardi (a humble Italian man). Anyway it wasn't RMIT that got him in, it was just him, his projects and stories. (I met him the other night, yet to see his work).

Anyway yes it should be good. The other day at a forum with a well known writer they told me I was a director (Just my ways you know), then the other day my teacher told me I am an actor because I get very animated when I talk about my writing. I'll just keep my head down and butt up and if God wills anything can happen. I certainly don't ever feel like I'm less than any of these people. Even if I was at the Oscars I wouldn't feel less than, on the contrary, I feel more blessed than many of those people who get Oscars because I know God and He favours me. That is not because of anything I've done, just that God is pleased with me, that's all. I think that things will happen very fast for me (I have a few projects brewing) and what I want most is to keep my feet on the ground and stay humble and desire praise from God more than that of man.

I was gonna wear my boots in case I need to do security work as well but I think that my mind is very active and that the notion I need to do security as well is imagined , though I'm ready if I am called for it . I think they have other people doing that job.

If you really want a report on what happened I will write it. Otherwise I won't. It's long and no big deal (I am busy) in comparison to the rest of the world. I helped out the photographer with taking down names of people he shot. It was good because I worked out who the people were. I made sure I didn't ask the funding body people their names even though I know them anyway, just as well. Imagine that, then I rock up and ask them for money . I'd have to be as smooth as raw silk for that!

I had gold shoes on. Got them at the op shop 10 yrs ago. People weren't wearing gold shoes then but some do now. Anyway I got many compliments. I responded "yeah thanks op shop special 5 bucks" they went bright red. I was amused. A lot of writers are quite daggy. Actually didn't see anyone else with gold shoes. Grant Sicluna told me only the cool people wear them in China (he just got back from filming there). I have been wearing them for years. Guess people are slow to catch on !

I met Alan Hopgood (Alvin Purple) and got a chance to witness to him. He asked me if my experience was like Billy Grahams. I said yes, I suppose you could liken it to his. He was respectful and listened with awe. The other man next to me. I helped him with characters for a woman in a mafia film. He was shocked and had no idea. Perhaps because at the time I had lunch with him he was fully focused on this mafia stuff, the culture in there basically. That was a shock to me as well actually. Fact that I told him more about mafia cultural stuff and didn't tell him about Christ. Actually forgot his name. He wrote some stuff for Homicide (I think, or was it Water Rats?). One of those TV series and the rest. He's written quite a lot of stuff but lately his stuff hasn't done so good. I told him he should write about things he knows about. Otherwise you can tell it's not authentic.

"Underbelly" got a mention. A series about Melb mafia. Many died for that material. It hasn't been shown in Melbourne cause of a court case pending. Many pirated copies have been distributed but I haven't seen it yet. Not hanging to either, too close to what my past used to be and many of those guys I also know.
