How do I learn to leave things to God?

When I pray and talk to God I have a tendency to check on things. I know he is going to take care of what I am asking him for according to His will but I have a tendency to still think about it, wonder if it has happened yet and if it is something I can check on I will.

How do I stop that? Stop the thinking about it and checking on it.That is part of my personality even though I know HE will handle it. I have always been the take charge, figure it out type but recently I feel that I am doing something wrong when I pick up the phone or log onto the computer to see if something has happened yet.

I suffer from the same problem as you. I don't know that there is an easy answer. always I would pray for God to bring about a solution in situations and then 10 seconds later I was running through all the possibilites in my head, trying to see what I could do to force the outcome I wanted... after all God helps those who help themselves right?

Well recently a situation came about that I was going through the same cycles with. I laid it all at the cross then went looking for my answer or for the way to get what I wanted. Then it dawned on me what I was doing. This situation IS out of my control. Once I realized that I had done all I could and truly could not "fix" it I was able to let it go 100%. I handed that person to God fully. I have a peace of mind now and I know that whatever happens is what God will work. I've stopped getting my hands in the mix.

Really the only thing I can offer you is that once you really give it over, you won't worry. You may not even ponder it except as a passing thought. At least that is how it was for me.

Sorry that I cannot be more helpful.

norajm,
Can you give a more specific instance? I guess I am unclear about the 'checking on' aspect of your prayer. LL

Norajm,

What you are doing is natural. It's part of our human nature.

What I advise is that you try harder - once you hand a problem over to Him just trust Him and leave it to Him.

I am just like you in this respect. I try my hardest to trust Him - and He's NEVER let me down.

I totally relate. Im really take-charge by nature anyways, so i always thought before that leaving things totally up to God would be selfish of me, but i know thats what He wants us to do. But its still hard, none-the-less.

The reason why you're checking on it is b/c deep down inside there's a little piece of you that's wondering, What if God doesn't do it? Unfortunately, religion teaches us that maybe God won't take care of stuff, that He might say no!! That little gem of man's knowledge digs deep inside us and stands in the way. Not to mention folks who let us down each day. but His word says, He will, He promised to take care of us. I suggest each time that little voice questions, what if? you grab His word and find a verse that promises He'll do something and confess it and thank Him for it. the bible isn't just a history book or something God did b/c He was bored, it's Him talking to us. The more you do this, the more you will trust Him and the more you'll stop checking on things.

1 Peter 5:7

2 Corinthians 10:5

Those are the two verses that come to mind! I'm with you in this boat.
