I alway try to do what the Lord has planned but many time I/We just do not listen In the past two yearw we were working at a small but older SBC in a middle to low income area Love doining what the Lord wanted , All over age 60 and said they wanted change, what a lie every change was a battle and no one would give a inch < They wanted to grow but yet would not plan or even set up a room for children and young family to have a place. I knew last summer it was time to move on but My hb the Music/Youth pastor(the only reson we stayed were the youth) 4 week ago HD had the last. I /We not going to change sermom form the dead church and gave notice!! We have retruned to our home church(which had asked us to help this one out) and so many was shocked we stay that long!! My Question is WHY do do many people stay in a dead church!!!
I have been in church over 40 yrs and had heard people preach/talk about a dead church but was never in one till this past 2 years! The only way this church will change is when about 10 -20 of the 40 that come are out of the church and home with the Lord so sorry to say! Even the pastor has said that in a side joking way !
The Pastor has it made this is his frist church all things payed he is FT and at the begining talked and preach on a vison but now he has even started to just settle / Why ? How can a Man call him self a Preacher of the Word if that what he is doinging. He dose what the 5-6 said want, Keeps the 40 or so happy but yet When we talked he spoke of change abut yet could not wold not made any?
So We now have freedom we are back serviceing a Wonder Loveing Lord in our Home church waiting and seeking are next move or if it time to plan and keep working their, But it was wonderful to feel missed and have a loving churh to retrun to !!
Yes it was hard to said good bye to the youth.
Yes it was hard to give up the PT money we were making Bur Peace/Joy/service has no price and I know the Lord will open up something soon for the income,
I pray the pastor will wake up and find his vison again and seek what really is a active church family to work with,

We seek comfort over obedience is the simple answer. How much easier is it to stay somewhere where there are no demands placed upon you than to go out into a world where people will hate you. It is comfortable. Water and electricity follow the path of least resistance why not humankind? Because to be obedient we must make an effort in the direction of His Kingdom. Preach or teach. If you believe, you must assist in the battle in some fashion. God Bless

I would tend to agree that comfort is perhaps the biggest reason. But I do think it goes beyond not being challenged as legalism is profoundly comfortable. People like things clearly defined and structured. Sadly for those so enslaved, God is not definable and the absolute infinity of who he is terrifies many.

I believe that change works both ways. It could be argued that you and your husband were inflexible and were not willing to change to be more like the people you were serving. Why did they have to change and not you all.

Change does not necessarily mean growth and placing a children's daycare or service in your church does not represent growth. When I was a child we all (my whole family) went to church and sat togetehr, no children's church. It was a pretty good church and I believe thatI grew because of the experience.

Often the children's church is stafed with people not qualified to teach the children about God.

Dear Mosess8 I agree that children church is not always the place I like my children to be in church We were not called to serve the people but the Lord , But the point I was making was they said they wanted change because they know in their heart the chuch is dead and not growing in any way,( the family members will not even come Like grand kids etc most are church less and seeing the adults may be the reason) ) When a family came as last summer a family of 8 came they was not place for the children to have a sunday school class because the adults had made all in to small adult class 5-6 in each class >
So We tryed and when we were in accordinance to what God wanted us to do, it was just a stone wall My point when we left folks said we understand and know what the reason but yet they still just sit and do not really care about the folks and family on the way to Hell because that will not made a change ! So sad it is a great Building ,good area of people that could be witness to but yet they come to show up then drive away leaving the Christ we know and love in the building! waitng for next sunday, I just paiseing the Lord we came to the fact and the Lord showed us the time to get and go back to a wonderful live church before we became like tha It would have been so easir(and paied) to just show up do the job and walk away( as they have ) But Life and serving Christ is What we have choice to do the rest of our lifes. Thanks for the feed back .

I pray that the Lord would send workers to that "dead church" that can help them draw closer to Him.

Seems a lot of people watch evangelist on TV and call it going to church.
My kids use to play Mario Cart and think they where driving…
