What is your favorite thing to cook in a crockpot/slow cooker? Will you share your recipes?Do you leave the house with your crockpot (slow cooker) turned on?

My favorite thing to cook in my crockpot is a roast. The last time I cooked on I mixed a can of cream of mushroom soup and a can of french onion and poured over it. It turned out very good.

I really don't use recipes. I usually just put some meat and put some gravy or soup over it.

I also make soups in my crockpot.

I do leave the house with my crockpot on. It is the only appliance I will leave on when I leave the house. To me that is the great thing about a slow cooker, you can put what you are cooking in it and then not have to keep watching it. It comes in real handy for people who work during the day. I work nights so I come home and put something in the crock pot and it cooks while I am sleeping.

The only thing I use mine for is chili.

It uses a combo of ground beef and pork. Chopped onions and green bell pepper. Some fresh garlic, parsley, and canned tomatoes. Season with salt, black pepper, cumin and chili powder. Add according to your family's tastes.

I cook a lot of things in my crock pot. Chili, soups, roasts, chickens, peppersteak, BBQ, etc.

I do leave it on when I leave the house sometimes (like during church, etc.), or overnight.

May favorite thing too cook in a crock pot is a tie between spaghetti sauce and roast. They both make plenty for leftovers and are so yummy!

Spaghetti Sauce
2 cans Hunts Tomato Sauce
1 can Hunts Diced Tomatoes w/ Basil, Garlic, and Oregano
1 can (small) Hunts Tomato Paste
1 lb. lean hamburger meat
1 small onion, diced
Pinch of sugar

Brown hamburger meat and onion drain. While meat is cooking mix together in crockpot all the cans and pinch of sugar. After meat is done add to sauce, mix well. If sauce is took thick add a little water till it is the consistency you like. Cover and cook on low all day.

Roast
1 packet dried ranch dressing
1 packet dried Italian dressing
1 packet dried brown gravy mix
1 roast
carrots

Place roast in crockpot with carrots. Mix the 3 packets w/ a cup and a half of water. Pour over roast, cover, and cook on low all day. Serve with mash potatoes and biscuits.

I like to use Lipton Beefy Onion dry soup mix for roast or even round steak. I season the meat with Tony Cachere's or any other good season-all type mixture, then just sprinkle the dry soup mix on top. In my old crockpot, which is taller and narrower, I usually don't add any water, and I don't mind leaving it on all day. Enough juice cooks out of the meat to keep it mosit. My newer crockpot, which is larger, more oblong, but shorter, I find I do need to add 1/2-3/4 cup of water. Sometimes I put potatoes and carrots around the roast, sometimes not, it just depends on what I have on hand. I do find that the larger crockpot takes longer for the meat to be really tender, (10-12 hours) vs. the smaller one, which is good in 8-10 hours.

Jeepers! I make roasts, chickens, and soups of all sorts. I've even slow-cooked corn on the cob in my crockpot here a couple of weeks ago! Because I do so much volunteering at my kids' schools I love being able to start something in the morning and have it nearly done by the time I get home! Especially nice for those hectic nights when we have ball practice, church, scouts or whatever.

Blessings,

Garsy

My favorite is soup or stew. I've had a hard time finding recipes for my slow cooker (my own fault- I didn't want to buy a new cookbook and have been "afraid" of trying just random recipes I find on the internet.) I usually just alter a regular stew or soup recipe to work in the crockpot.

I also love to make my own chicken broth in the crockpot. Really good chicken broth takes at least 24 hours to make so the chicken bones break down and releases more nutrients, so I always do mine in the crockpot. I sure don't thave time to babysit it on the stove for two days straight.

The thing I don't like cooked in a crockpot is a whole chicken. I always overcook it until it is gummy.

I do leave mine when I am away from home or overnight. If I wouldn't do that, I don't think I would have any use for the thing.
