Ok - most of the women around me are a bit younger than me, so I'm not sure who to ask. Some history - I'm 29, and had to have one ovary removed when I was 23 because of an ovarian cyst and a benign tumor that wouldn't go away. I was diagnosed with fibrocystic breasts when I was about 19. I was on birth control for the past 8-9 years, but recently had to get off while waiting for my insurance to kick in. I'm not married, and not sexually active. A few days ago, I got up in the morning and was getting ready for my shower when I noticed a little bit of whitish-clearish fluid (TINY amout) leaking from my left breast. It did it again today. I've never had kids, never breast fed ... what on earth is going on? Should I be worried? Should I make an appointment soon? Edited to add - I just started my 5th cycle off birth control, and I started running about a month ago.

If it was me, I'd go to see my doctor just to be checked out. But then again I'm in the Uk and we can go for free, so I probably go to see my doctor more frequently anyway.

Anytime you have an unusual discharge from the breast it needs to be checked out. That's one of the things they check for in a breast exam when you have a breast exam, so I would think it's something you should have checked out.

This hasn't happened to me, BUT discharge like that COULD be a sign of cancer or Paget's disease (of the nipple)..but usually that has skin problems with it. I'm sure it's probably be nothing at all, or hormonal changes like prolactin, but it's better to be safe. :) Probably could just be a clogged duct also.

Nipple discharge: Rarely a sign of serious disease Unexpected nipple discharge can be worrisome, but it doesn't often indicate a serious underlying disease. Here's a look at common triggers of nipple discharge. Because your breast is a gland, your nipples may occasionally secrete fluids, even if you've never been pregnant. Cancer is rarely the underlying cause, but other conditions that require treatment may be. To find the cause, you'll need to see your doctor. From here.

I agree with the other ladies...best to get it checked out. Then you know and don't have to wonder and worry.

I will as soon as I can :) I was just curious WHAT on earth could be causing it. I actually feel a little better now, knowing I'm not the only one it has happened to. Thanks so much!

Possibly could be from getting off of long-term birth control pill use. A lot of bc pills mimic pregnancy hormonally. With you being on the pill so long and then suddenly getting off, this could be you bodies reaction to the change in hormone levels. But, as the others said--have it checked out! (At the very least, could you call your doctor and ask to speak to a nurse about it? Or check to see if you insurance has a nurse call line for health questions.)

Coming off birth control. Your prolactin levels could be out of whack. (I've known some men to lactate due to high prolactin levels.) Could be something else too though...which is why it's better to get it checked out.

I went to the doctor about 9 months ago because I had nipple discharge. I have breastfed but I had stopped 8 months previous. The doctor tested all of my hormone levels, but everything was normal. We thought maybe it was the birth control I was on, so I went off birth control completely. It is still happening but everything is ok. So like everyone else said, it's best to get it checked out. It's probably nothing, there could be quite a few reasons for it, but the safest thing is to get it checked out.
