We are in a new area this year. Last year we went to a private school which we LOVED and this year we'll be in a large public school. Anyway, went to registration this week and I had to purchase a clear plastic backpack that they have to wear everyday. To see what's inside? The oldest kids at this school are 7. I'm bummed. We have fun shopping for backpacks every year or two.

All schools in our school district require the back packs you can see through. Most of the younger kids use the clear plastic ones, older kids mostly use the net-type. ( I call them "holey"). It's been that way for a while--maybe not 10 years, but close to that.

Are those backpacks strong enough to hold what they need to hold? Sad that there is even a need for such measures...

Times have changed...I don't remember anyone even having backpacks when I was in school. I doubt that we took as much work home as children do today.

There is one style. Clear plastic. And it's UGLY :) I hope it's strong enough or they'll probably make me buy another. Ha! This primary school only goes to 1st grade so it is super sad if it's because of security reasons. When I asked Why the answer the lady gave me was because kids want to bring toys to school. But that seems like a dumb reason to make everyone buy a plastic bag.

I know things have change thu the years but i have worked in a few public .ptv, elem school Yes the reason they bring toy is one , So many parents will let the children bring anything and every thing to make themself happy, but it does causea huge problem and may of the kids fight over the toys. ect gameboys etc. Then I have seen children bring knives along with a small guns from his father truck!!! for show and tell. One school I was at for two years the children 2nd -7 took a set of books home the frist week and the only think the children were allowed to bring were folders for each class. to take home paper and notebooks home.Thuis was one of the best set up I have worked in They also had a homework hotline so you could call after 5.00pm and it would tell you the homework your children was to be doing for that day for that teach ,before you say it yess it was large school ovwer 600. it took great praents vol and teacher to make it run smooth ,I meet some of the best christian parents and (WHY i think christian children and family should be in public schools) durning this time and we severd the community lot were from a AFB, I like the ideals of the net bags for the upper ages. they are easyier to keep clean and it helped cut down on the it got lost in the bottom of the bag !!! Enjoy the years go by fast!!!

ORIGINAL: twoboys When I asked Why the answer the lady gave me was because kids want to bring toys to school. Well, that makes sense. I know that at my jr. high, we spend a ton of time, money and energy tracking down lost and stolen cell phones, ipods and gameboys, even though the students aren't supposed to bring them (they can have the cell phones, not the other electronics). I can imagine that kids having toys with them in elementary school could be a huge hassle. Can you put stickers or paint or anything on the outside of the backpacks to make them more "personal"?

I'd actually feel safer if my kid's schools required such backpacks!
