June is my birthday month For my birthday, I gave myself permission to be a more mellow driver. I will admit that I can get irritated with some drivers and the stupid things they do, and sometimes, I make smartalec remarks about them or a react to them -- like I did to the woman who sat in her huge 4X4 in the middle of the intersection and put on her makeup, blocking everyone trying to get off the freeway. Okay, they don't hear what I say, but I could be more mellow. Tomorrow morning, I will put two containers in my car. Every time I do at least one specific thing that is a specifically mellow act when I could have made anther choice while driving, I will put $1 per trip in the Mellow container. When I react negatively to someone, when I am a tense driver, when I make a critical remark about some one's driving, I will put $1 in the other cup per instance. Everything in the Mellow Cup goes toward doing something special for my husband's and my August vacation. Everything in the Tense Cup goes to the church I used to attend, that kicked me out. That is my way, and it may be fun to give an account here regarding how I am doing. But do you have a habit you want to break, or are you also a tense driver, or do you want to lose weight or quit sugar or stop smoking or drop the pop? Do you need a boost to make your change? If so, create your own method of bringing your bad habit to a halt and join me here. We can keep each other accountable!

We had a cussing word cup. I have been born again for awhile, and grew-up around horrible cussing. I hit my toe, or lose my temper on occassion and well it happens. never the Lords namein vain, but, mild if you will cussing. I am much better, than I used to be. You are amazing btw. I do not have traffic problems thanks be to the Lord, have not used the traffic finger in years, 10 years or so. I amazingly calm in traffic.

welllllll. . . Someone drove down the street in my blind spot, and my signal was on, to get over in that lane. He just stayed in my blind spot, so I slowed down to get behind him. So did he. So I sped up. So did he. After nearly coming to a stop to get over, disgusted, I commented, "Are ya gonna drive today?" Then I saw he was on his phone. People can't drive and talk. And before I thought, that I had already done myself in with the first comment, I said, "Get off the phone and drive." 2 comments, one incident, $1. I seriously did not think that I would ever need to put anything in that box, but I had to put it in. Gr-r-r-r-r-r! I did also get to put $1 in the vacation box, when a woman kept veering over, until she was in my lane. I said nothing and did not react; however, if she'd hit my car, I would probably have had to put another $1 in the other box. Gr-r-r-r-r-r! Gotta try harder.

Do you know how much I regret every cent I ever gave that church? That's why I chose them as the recipients. I would not want them to ever get another cent of my money for any reason. Quite an incentive for being very careful!! Do you know that I didn't get this until you 'splained it to me?!?!? I was wondering 'why would she want to give money to that church?' duh. . . Anyway, I'm appreciating your sharing. And I always thought you were a guy. . . something about your name made me think male. Another duh. . . Guess I need a box for stupid. . . and who would get the proceeds?

NOT stupid! NOT at all! A lot of people, for some reason I don't understand, think I am a guy on here. Maybe it's because I am kind of a rough person, kind of straight-forward, say what I intend. I don't know.

Yes, I want to join you!!!!! I hadn't joined any of the other weight loss threads, because I was working with a trainer, and he was having me journal both food and exercise, but due to $, I had to stop working with him, and, I gained 10 lbs back when I quit working with him, so now I need to lose 45 lbs. instead of 35. I want to be more faithful at the gym, stay off white flour and white sugar, and eat lots of fruit, veggies, and fibre (except Sundays, that's my cheat day), and I'm trying to eat oatmeal for breakfast most days. It's lowfat, full of fibre, and filling enough, that I don't really get very hungry the rest of the days.

I should get a smoking cup...every time I light up I put a dollar in...soon enough I will have enough money to buy that 1965 Mustang I have been wanting...so I can drive crazy and make Covaan put money in her cup. Aha. I hate swearing. Once I apologised to my kids for swearing and they said, " Gee you harldy swear at all!!" Gotta get my stuff together...sheesh.

You actually need that Mustang. I'll put up with your driving, to see you have it. All you need is a small box or a jelly jar, and you can get started. . . .

I've really been consciously trying to do better but I sometimes say the nastiest stuff to/about other drivers. Probably 90% of the times my kids have heard me cuss were in those situations. (the other 10% of the time is when I've hurt myself badly) I will join you! Although I probably can't afford $1 per incident. At least at first. Hmmm. What will I do with the money? OH!!! I know! There's a lapdesk I want desperately. I covet it. I lust after it.( ) That's what I'll use my Mellow Money for. My Tense Money? Maybe I'll give that to my kids to blow on stuff that I think is totally stupid and wasteful. (a lapdesk is NOT stupid and wasteful, btw )

ORIGINAL: Covaan_Meshuga All right, OneOfHisJewels! What is going to be your "carrot on the stick" to keep yourself motivated? The new clothes you will enjoy? The change in the way you feel? A quarter for everytime you stay faithful? Just knowing that you are doing the right things? What? I'll have to think about that one. And oh, by the way, I've still kept 15 lbs of the original weight loss off, so I didn't gain it ALL back. Money can't really be something I use over that right now, it's too tight right now. As for clothes, I already got a bunch of new clothes when I lost the initial weight, and as long as it doesn't wear out, that stuff is nice enough to get altered, so the carrot on the stick won't be clothes either, but I will think about what it will be, I'll have to get back to you on that one.. Now that you started this thread, I wanna work on gettting to no or minimal caffeine too.

ORIGINAL: CoeurdeLeon You are brilliant! Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! I could dream!! I was telling my husband yesterday how disgusted with myself I am that I had even a single dollar I am now obligated to send them. It really irks me. He suggested that I could send it anonymously, but I can't. I want the worst possible punishment for myself. I have to decide whether to send the money to the headquarters church, the local church, or to the church where the pastor who kicked me out serves. For the worst possible punishment, it will more likely be the last two. Around here, we cannot leave money in cars, exposed. I went up to the local craft store and bought two tiny cardboard boxes with lids, painting both black. The Tense Box remained simply black, but I gilded the Mellow Box's lid with gold.

Quarters accumulate nicely, too! If you buy ready-made coffee, you can drop the price of a cup of coffee in each time you make the decision not to have some!

Actually, I think I figured out what I'm gonna do. As far as coffee, I'll still have one cup each morning, but I'll try to limit it to that and not have diet coke or diet pepsi (which I love) during the day either. As far as the weight loss incentive, I think I have decided that after each 10 bs. loss, I can have ONE diet coke or pepsi, no more than that until the next 10 lbs. lost. This will be good because it will motivate me to lose each 10 lbs., and staying off soda, even diet soda helps one lose weight, so it almost has a circular effect. So now I have to think of reward /punishment for too much coffee.

Only problem with that is that I rarely buy ready made coffee, I just make it at home.

Oh, man! I used to be a Pepsiholic. Once I quit drinking it, when I tried later, it tasted TERRIBLE!! That was a good thing for me, though!

Cursing is also a problem for me because of my job (LARGE county sheriff's deputy) - we deal with the worst of the absolute worst. Having spent a number of years working in one of the maximum security areas of our jail did not help any. Oddly enough - even with the occasional slip up, certain inmates and street perps would comment to me that "something" was different about me than the rest of the officers. Praise Jesus because the difference is His grace and providence in my life.

I have some powerful excuses to get that Mustang...but...I don't need it. Hence the many years I have considered getting one.
