Here is a post I wrote in the Offended thread earlier today: quote:
Oh, and I am offended about something else now. I went through the "My Forums" path, saw a title in the "Latest Threads" area that looked intriguing, and went there. Stunned at what I read, I quickly wrote an answer to the -- uh -- person there, was interrupted by a phone call after I posted, then looked back at the thread, only to find myself, ONCE AGAIN!, in the Men Only area. I am offended that we are not informed in the "Latest Threads" that the post is on a restricted area. I am offended that SOME MEN can really be THAT STUPID! And I am offended that SOME MEN think that those are men to be followed! SOME MEN really creep me out! And I don't want to fall into that area again!!!! I will admit it: I don't come here that often. But when I have in the past, it has sometimes been out of frustration, a time when I wanted answers regarding trouble I was having in my relationship with my husband. But are we as creepy as what I have seen in the Men's Only area -- an area I try religiously to avoid but have fallen into by accident a few times through the "Latest Threads" area and because I went there purposely once. Do any of us come here to specifically bad-mouth men just for being men? Do any of us come here to plan and encourage others to be cruel, controlling, and manipulative to men? If we do this, we are just the same and have no excuse to complain.

I'm sure some women do. I know many women who love speaking ill of their husbands or men in general. It sickens me. I feel sorry for those men. But I also feel sorry for the women who have to put up with men that act the same way. It's stupid, ridiculous, immature, nasty, and pointless no matter what end it is coming from. There's no excuse, period.

Are there women who bad mouth men for being men? Sure. Just as there are men who bad mouth women who aren't a size four, don't provide sex five times a week and don't have dinner promptly hot on the table at 5:30 every night. Bad behavior is found in all humans, rich and poor, male and female. I do understand that both genders may need a space to vent sometimes. Venting can be healthy and good, provided it's not obsessive or overly cruel. I also think both genders can get in a few good natured jokes on the other gender. I can give, and I can take, but that's me. Everyone has their own tolerance level for that sort of thing. I don't think we need to speak reverently of men just because of their gender. They are not gods. But there is a line not to be crossed. Only problem? That line is not in the same place for all people.

The thing is, if we are doing things that guys find creepy, do we see it as normal and are therefore clueless about it? I don't see either gender as creepy but I do see a few posters here that make me shake my head. (no names will be given)

You know, I griped here about my husband back when I was frustrated with him. My frustration at such times had its own tentacles that would reach out, seeking and absorbing things additional to the original (the real) frustration then vomit it out here. So spilled mayonnaise left on the counter loomed larger than it really was because I was not dealing properly with the real problem. But am I just blind to our (and especially my own) faults, or is what those certain men write, plan, and encourage way over what women do? Are we equally guilty? If we are, I am profoundly ashamed.

I agree with Amy's opinion. And it's all the more revolting because they cloak their bitterness rudeness in Scripture and their "Christian" faith. It's enough to send anyone running for the hills. And it's all justifiable because any bad feelings they have about women are all the fault of feminists and liberals and wives who don't submit enough.

quote:
ORIGINAL: artemis In my opinion, the women on crosswalk bad-mouth men far less than I've heard in real life. I think that many of the women here are quick to praise their husbands and are also quick to point out to others when they are complaining for the sake of complaining. Unfortunatly, in real life, it seems to be the norm to insult/tease/mock men. It gets a laugh on TV, so why not make the same sort of jokes with your co-workers as well? And, in my opinion, the men on crosswalk are far more bitter and rude toward women than the men I've met in real life. I've never heard the kind of negativity toward wives and women in real life that I've read on crosswalk. Then again, I live in the south and chivalry is alive and well here, so maybe I'm just lucky I agree exactly with this. And, it's one thing to vent situationally (like having a frustrating situation going on with one's husband), it's another entirely to paint an entire gender with one cruel brush. (And I agree with Sideways, too.)

I think I'm glad I've never wandered into the Men's folder (accidentally or on purpose). Doesn't sound very nice.
