I am a SAHM and I home-school my three children. I have an e-Bay store, but it is still not enough income to have something like a pay-check. It's still new and it will take awhile to build it up.
What are other things I could do? I'm willing to put an hour or two into it per day. Maybe more. I need some extra money.

if you know calligraphy, doing fancy addressing envelopes for weddings-and if you don't know calligraphy, it's not hard to learn
making hair bows
writing
if you play an instrument, music lessons
if you're a polite, classy type person, etiquette classes
if you have a dance background, dance classes
typing for people
baking bread or cookies or _______ to sell
doing needlework to sell or teaching how to do it
tutoring

My mom works for a company that is something like customer service over the phone. You have to do training, and install software on your computer. Then you pick your hours each day (as many or as little as you want), log in, and answer phone calls for select companies. (for example, if you call 1-800-Flowers, you might get my mom on the line)
They pay a minimum of $7 an hour.

What about preserves ~ jams, jellies, marmalades etc? They last for quite a while, so if you don't sell them immediately they won't need to be wasted.

It's illegal to sell food out of your house. It's a health code violation, you have to use a commercial kitchen and may need some kind of license.

I'm afraid Galifrey is missing. Something about a time war and Daleks. Very messy situation.....Does this mean I'm missing? If my location is Galifrey? (Doctor Who fans would understand this insane comment...)
Anyway, can't do the food thing....laws and such. The phone thing sounds interesting. I wish I could sell more over the net. I have to get myself a tax i.d. #. I'm also looking into buying back the gift shoppe my parents and I started back in 1983 and sold.
Any other at home ideas?

I would actually enjoy that as I'm a scrap-booker. I am, however short on spreading out space. My house situation is a major issue....also why I can't have parties from home. I literally need a new house.
Has anyone here sold Avon and actually made money from it?
Talking about scrapbooking....there are companies that sell scrap book supplies through reps like Tupperware and Avon do.

Visit colleges around you and contact their bookstore and ask if they have any "dead" books they will give away or sell. Many bookstores discontinue use of textbooks (many of which are still brand new) and they will often times sell them to you. I used to buy them by the box..like $15 a box. I probably netted $75,000 over the 5 years or so that I did this. I would sometimes buy like 15 of one book and pay $1 a piece for them and turn around and sell them for $80 a piece on amazon.

Wow jod78, that is quite remarkable. Was there a best time of year to ask for these 'dead' books?

Yeah usually they would have them after the end of semesters. Some return unsold books that aren't needed back to the distributor, and some of them might not be willing to sell them, but I found several that would. Like I said i probably paid maybe $1 on average per book. Of course I probably have at this moment at least 1500 that I never sold, but I more than made up for it with what I did sell. I basically need to dump what I have in a recycling bin and start all over. I haven't messed with any of it in awhile. Not sure the ones I bought from are still selling them.

That's an interesting idea! Hubby is still in college, he could check on that.
So there's a real market for the "old" versions of textbooks? I always figured once a new one came out nobody would be looking for the old versions.

I sold strictly textbooks..and no they aren't always old. It wasn't uncommon for me to buy brand new ones. They evidently never sold and I guess the class went to a different edition or whatever and the distributor didn't buy them back so I bought them for nothing. They weren't selling me 10 year old books, most of them were within 3-4 years as far as the copyright. A lot of them were fairly new. If they looked like older ones I didn't bother buying them. I started out just piddling around with it and eventually got to where I had TONS of them. There was a period of time where during those months where semesters were starting up, I would have like $3-5K credits in one month from Amazon. I was shipping out like 100-150 books in some of those months, which is a lot of work. They do give you shipping credits. It's fizzled out for me...serious lack of time and harder to find the stores selling them anymore.

I did daycare in my home for 10 years and now I sell L'bri which is a skincare and makeup collection. While you don't have to do parties, you do need to build a customer base just like any other direct sales business. But I also do vendor fairs around the holidays which are fun and once you get a few good customers, you have people who can pass the word along.
My very first customer never even saw my products and she orders every month from me. But if you need a steady income, you need to be able to set aside time to do 4 parties a month. But if you do that, with my profit plan, you will not only make money, but build a wonderful customer base because our products do sell themselves most of the time.
You just need to look around and find something you like. Avon worked for Roberta. You mentioned Tupperware and I do mine for my reasons. You also need to look at the profit plans and have a good accountant.

I just meant that I thought once an updated version of a textbook came out, then what was the current version was then considered obsolete. Hubby always has to wait until the week or two before his classes start to order books, to see if the books that are currently in the bookstore are going to be "out of date" or not, else he gets stuck with books that he can't use and can't sell back because they don't want them.
