I found the following excripts from an article on a Christian website I've frequented in the past. Its regarding America's current financial crisis and what it might bring about for religion. I thought I'd post the link to it here for some opnions on this:

Thanks for the link. Granted, David Wilkerson's ministry is crippled by a defective eschatology, so he does sometimes sound like a shrill alarmist.

I do think he is right on target, though, when discussing the flamboyant "dog and pony shows" that so many are inclined to embrace in lieu of home schooling:

quote:

-in the coming days of calamity, the true revival won't come through showboating, big-time preachers or TV evangelists. It won't come through prosperity teachings or other doctrines of false security. No--God's revival will come through a hidden company of pastors and lay people who have been in the school of Christ, learning His ways and trusting in Him. These will lead a revival of truth!

Looking at the flip side of the album, I suspect times could be wonderful for those who love God's truth, and are looking for the opportunities a generous Father loves to lavish on His children. Going "chicken little," however, could blind folks to God's provision.

I don't think going "Chicken Little" is ever a good strategy for Christians. If we aren't prepared to deal with the end of the world, who is? Besides, when Jesus was facing his own death, he didn't flip out. Instead he worked on bringing as many people into the Kingdom of God as he could, all the way to the cross. Heck, he even converted someone on the cross!

So if Jesus didn't freak out, I don't see why we should.

Religion is just that religion. I believe in faith which to me is stronger than *A* religion. Religion can be anything, someone can worship a chair and call it whatever. Saying God bless you when someone sneezes is a religion.
So who cares about *a* religion what is most important is who do you have your ***Faith*** in?

God is not a religion, He is a Spirit and that is who I follow

Nicely said.

Americans have seen various warnings for many years. However, as in the past America will pick herself up but she will not have the strength to dust herself off.

American men are rife with greed. They will go to great extremes to line their pockets with money... from politicians to CEO's of seemingly sound corporations. No one is immune from the temptation of great wealth.

We are all going to face some hard times but the worst is yet to come and it very well could be our children who will suffer most.

So, what do we do? We prepare spiritually and with our resources. We make every effort to not owe anyone... we get out of debt and learn to live on less.

My 401k lost a great deal in just one short month. I may have nothing when I retire but I will still have Jesus and He will be my provider and I will have no fear.

Done everything I can to give my children, friends, and associates a sense of hope, adventure, and expectation, the kinds of things that Brother Dave's expectations make nearly impossible.

God's judgments are simply the flip side of His mercy. God took down soviet communism recently, and has plans for Islam and for secular humanism. Our family is undermining secular humanism by starving it of the resource it most desperately craves -- the hearts, minds, and lives of our children. We are also praying for Muslims we know and love. We are begging God to let us be in on what He is up to, no matter which quarter the next opportunities appear in.

If folks in the soviet bloc were so eager to hear the gospel when the foundation of their culture shattered, how do you think Muslims would react if God suddenly disproved Islam? Would they have Christian friends to turn to? Could we be those friends?

When God turns His attention to the atheistic foundations of the American order -- centralized fraudulent banking and a constitution that covenanted us to a rival deity[1] -- will we have the spiritual and practical resources to help our neighbors make sense of their lives?

How big is our God? How much can we expect from Him? How much can we aspire to do for Him?

[1] The Mayflower Compact was made "in the name of God, Amen." Twelve of the original colonies were Christian civil orders. Most required aspirants to public office to formally pledge allegiance to the God of the Bible. The Declaration of Independence appealed to "the laws of Nature, and of Nature's God" -- a step away from the God of the Bible. The federal constitution, finally, was made in the name of a new deity, "we the people," and forbade pledged allegiance to God as a condition of holding public office.

In Robert Webber's introduction to, "Listening to the beliefs of Emerging Churches" he says that as history reveals patterns that recur over time the problems now facing our country and culture are nothing new and in fact may be but opportunities for the church.

In an atmosphere of fear, financial lose and worry, the church has a new context to tell again, as if for the first time for many, the gospel of hope. However, the church like at other times in its history is going to have to reform itself if it is to meet the needs of the culture it finds itself in. Reformation I believe goes hand in hand with revival. What we see today is a God given opportunity for the church. That which refuses to humble itself will be humbled.

There has been a lot of sin and foolishness committed and society cannot go on building on such shakey foundations. If men will not seek God in their comfort and prosperity, then perhaps they will when it is all taken away. Can we gloat? No, many of us will also suffer for the sins of corporate America and this alone gives us a right to call it into line for we are share holders in this country. Perhaps we too are to blame for we have for too long accepted the benefits of a corrupt system and held our peace as long as we were paid to. Our response is where were the prophets?

Yup - totally agree w/ the there!

There are times when I tell people that, and they mostly look at kinda wierd, and wonder why I say like; "God doesn't need our religion", "Because He is a religion on all to himself", In the time of the final Judgement - where do you suppose Jesus will bring up -"What", religion you were? (becuase He won't!)

Which does bring me back to Job.

From what I have gathered - Job is a story in a sence, about our relationship w/ God. We can get all boo-hooo and teary-eyed, and fall into the ways of the world. Or we can just take it on the chin, suck it up - and give God all our problems/cares, as we try our darndest to follow him in all things.
