We've long suspected that the TSA's policies do little good to enhance airport security. Here's an investigative piece that proves it:

http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200811/airport-security

It's possible for a reasonably intelligent person to compromise the system in almost any way he wants.

As much as I dread the apparent future Democratic monopoly on government, I wonder if they will be more likely than Republicans to disband the TSA? Couldn't come a moment too soon ...

Come on now, this is how Dubya has successfully kept us safe from terrorists since 9/11.

Has the DNC ever been behind disbanding a government agency?

Bruce Schneier has an article on airport security.

In fact, Bruce Schneier has a lot of great podcasts that talk about airport security.

There was a particularly good one I heard a long time ago (though I don't know which one it is or if it's even on that site). One of the things that he said was that, after 9/11 the airports were completely backed up because everyone was getting their luggage checked. The problem with this is that it created overly crowded airports and those overcrowded airports might as well have been painted with a target symbol. He made some excellent, common sense points that it seemed airport security wasn't considering at the time. Bruce talks a lot about airport security and anyone interested should consider listening to him and reading his work (though that doesn't mean they should necessarily agree with everything he says of course).

Yeah.

Personally I think all airport security should be replaced with basic checks of all bags for bombs and guns and large knives at the entrances to the terminal of the airport (even before the ticket counter). Kind of like when entering a sports arena.

Even pocket knives should be allowed on planes IMHO. Due to reinforced cockpit doors, gun-toting pilots, and a passenger base now conditioned to resist hijackers, there is simply no way a repeat of 9/11 could happen. If someone tries, and passengers do need to resist someone, the more pocket knives on board the better.

Then the retarded liquid ban. Don't get me started.

Everything the TSA does is worse than worthless! And it costs some $5-$7 billion a year.

If all the liquids, gels, and pastes were truly a concern; TSA would have the local bomb squads working full time. As it is they keep the stuff in trash bins next to the security checkpoints. Obviously they don't think this stuff is truly dangerous based on the way they treat it.

Our whole government has turned into a joke, from the FDA to the patent office to airport security. Name me one thing about our government that's not a joke.

The IRS. They're still the same.

Why do they call it the Internal Revenue Service? It's more like a disservice. A service to whom?

The bottom line is when you get on an airplane or anyplace that you go is to trust in God.

Hmm, maybe there's actually some reasonable news for once. According to this, the liquids ban will likely end within a year.

China's been a little more high-strung since the Olympics, but it's almost invariably a breeze to get on planes here. The staff, security and otherwise, seem to make it a priority to keep everything moving quickly and smoothly. They're really nice, too.

And they don't even screen it before the toss it!

Marcus, sometimes you make way too much sense!
