We've long suspected that the TSA's policies do little good to enhance airport security. Here's an investigative piece that proves it: http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200811/airport-security It's possible for a reasonably intelligent person to compromise the system in almost any way he wants. As much as I dread the apparent future Democratic monopoly on government, I wonder if they will be more likely than Republicans to disband the TSA? Couldn't come a moment too soon ...

Bruce Schneier has an article on airport security. http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2006/03/airport_passeng.html http://crypto-gram.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=304494 In fact, Bruce Schneier has a lot of great podcasts that talk about airport security. http://crypto-gram.libsyn.com/rss There was a particularly good one I heard a long time ago (though I don't know which one it is or if it's even on that site). One of the things that he said was that, after 9/11 the airports were completely backed up because everyone was getting their luggage checked. The problem with this is that it created overly crowded airports and those overcrowded airports might as well have been painted with a target symbol. He made some excellent, common sense points that it seemed airport security wasn't considering at the time. Bruce talks a lot about airport security and anyone interested should consider listening to him and reading his work (though that doesn't mean they should necessarily agree with everything he says of course).

If all the liquids, gels, and pastes were truly a concern; TSA would have the local bomb squads working full time. As it is they keep the stuff in trash bins next to the security checkpoints. Obviously they don't think this stuff is truly dangerous based on the way they treat it.

It's a joke..and a total waste of $$$$$$. We are no safer now than pre-9/11 at the airports or anywhere else.

The bottom line is when you get on an airplane or anyplace that you go is to trust in God.

China's been a little more high-strung since the Olympics, but it's almost invariably a breeze to get on planes here. The staff, security and otherwise, seem to make it a priority to keep everything moving quickly and smoothly. They're really nice, too.
