I was reading in our news about a young, christian man who was tragically killed in a car accident. It is easy to be sad and think: "Wow, he was so young, he went before his time."
But, we know God's timing is always the right timing, His purpose prevails and He makes no mistakes...
I know that sometimes the death of a loved one brings people to the LORD. I knew a young couple the came to Jesus after the loss of an infant.
What are some other examples of how a greater good could come from such a sad and unexpected event. Especially when the person that leaves us is someone who actively serves and loves the LORD and seems to do a lot of good here on earth.

God knew the exact number of days this young man would live on earth and he did not live past one single moment which was known to God. An accident took his life but God already had this situation in hand a long, long time ago (see Psalm 139)
But, we know God's timing is always the right timing, His purpose prevails and He makes no mistakes...
This is true.
I know that sometimes the death of a loved one brings people to the LORD. I knew a young couple the came to Jesus after the loss of an infant.
My father collapsed and died of a heart attack when I was 17 years old. He too was a young man. I started to question what life and death was about after this. A few years later, i.e. 9 days before my 21st birthday, I trusted the Lord as my Saviour. I strongly believe Romans 8:28 as a result of this and that God can definitely bring good out of a sad situation.
What are some other examples of how a greater good could come from such a sad and unexpected event. Especially when the person that leaves us is someone who actively serves and loves the LORD and seems to do a lot of good.
What we sometimes forget is that when someone is a Child of God, life goes on - it is eternal - they have not ceased to exist altogether - far from it.
Also, just because we do good in this life and are used by God does not guarantee a long 'earthly' life. Added to this, sometimes we see the work a person does for God and we forget to consider the One behind the work - it is His work and not that of any human individual! God does not stop working His plan because one of His children are no longer living on earth - God very likely has a different plan from ours because His thoughts are higher than ours and His ways are far better than ours. He is not limited to any human being to carry out His will - so please do not be concerned about this because God definitely knows what He is doing.
Perhaps an example of the greater good which could come out of this is that God will challenge individuals to consider the brevity of life as you have already mentioned. There are so many things which the Lord could work as a result of this situation that only time will tell.
Pray and ask the Lord what it is that He is saying to you through this situation and perhaps in the years to come, you too could add your own example of an answer to the greater good the Lord has worked as a result of this young man's life and death.

I always find this to be so very hard, losing a loved one is not something any of us want to face, but knowing that they are going HOME is such a joy! My grandfather passed away a couple of years ago, and he was truly a man of God, you could not be in his presence unless you heard about Jesus Christ, I miss those days!! Anyway, my mother was saved years ago, when I was only an infant, but she had drifted away from the Lord....when my grandfather passed, I seen a change in her, a transformation in her life, and not long after, she rededicated her life to the Lord, and today, serves Him faithfully! So, I do believe, losing someone so very close to us...that good can come from it, and God gets all the glory!

I'm pondering this passage right now. I have not come up with anything yet, other than I'm learning to trust God about His timing. I just don't know what the implications of that in my life yet.

I find this kind of thought interesting. And please don't take what I'm going to say personally, slimon11, because I'm not speaking specifically to you but the topic in general.
Why do we think there should be some 'greater good' that comes from 'sad and unexpected events'? Isn't the real problem our finiteness and small thinking? If it would make sense to us (as in fitting into that 'greater good' thinking), wouldn't that make it equally small and insignificant since it is being understood by me?
Why can't we be satisfied letting God be God and accept that many things are beyond our understanding and rightfully should be? And that someday, when I am as He is, I will fully know.
So that's where I am. I am content to leave these mysteries with God and say thank You that I don't even have to be responsible for the knowing.
