Can someone please explain these two passages to me? I know the Bible cannot contradict itself, so I'd like some help in understanding. Let me preface by saying that I am a work-at-home mom and I've steadily had work more and more to help support my husband's income and keep us afloat. I often get up very early to work and stay up late and it is detracting from my spending time with my family, so I'm trying to figure out what the Bible says about a working mother. I came across this in Proverbs 31: (speaking about a wise wife) 15 She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls. 17 She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. 18 She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. So I assume that, yes, if I am taking care of my family, I should still put in the long hours to work because we need the money. We don't live extravagantly, just trying to keep the electric on and gas in the car. Then I came across Psalm 127: 2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves. Am I just taking this out of context? It seems like God says that we should work to provide for our families, but then the Psalms state that it is useless to get up early and stay up late in order to earn a living. God takes care of his own, even while they sleep. Can someone please clarify? Thanks in advance for any help!
